How does the Explorer 1 36mm wear compared to the modern DJ's?

I just bought a new 116200 for my 'gentleman's watch' and am looking for something casual as my daily beater. I have somewhat small 6.75" wrists and I think the DJ, especially with lighter colored dials, wears absolutely fine for me.

I keep coming back to the old 36mm 14270 Explorer. Love the dial, the simplicity, the fact it's the stealth Rolex and has such history. I am not a fan of the 39mm version so that is out.

I don't mind both my watches being 36mm as long as the Exp didn't wear any smaller than the DJ. Problem is, even though I have no shortage of used Rolex dealers in town no one has this model, so I would have to buy sight unseen.

I don't suppose anyone has wrist shots comparing those two side by side? Opinions welcome as well on how the two compare in wrist presence...

I too love the Explorer 36mm! Unfortunately, it wears very small on a man's wrist. On the other hand (pun intended!), it looks great on my wife and she wears it almost daily!

I beg to differ. I have a 7.25" and below is a 36mm Exp. Further down is a DJI. You be the judge.

IMO, neither one of those beauties look small on your wrist. They look just right.

A fluted bezel datejust wears a bit larger imo. But don't think for a second it's too small it's not they are beautiful watches.

A Rolex oyster case watch wears bigger than it's specs.....I have a 36 mm explorer, the 114270, lugs a bit thicker...it wears better for me (6'75" watch wearing wrist) compared to the 39mm one.

The 114270 wears very comfortably. I love mine. Very understated and reliable. One of my favorites.

For sure the DJ will seem a little larger with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet in SS.

There is an AD in Mass. that as of last fall still had an unsold Exp. I 36 mm in his case. Twice I asked for a bargain and it might have been mine, but he's asking something north of $4,500 which considering what he paid for it way back then just seems high.

7.75 wrist here and I think the 114270 is the cat's meow.

The 116200 wear somewhat larger with the wider lugs.

how does a DJ 36mm with fluted bezel wear compared to a 39mm explorer ???

i currently have the 39mm explorer and i have fallen in love with the classic datejust , unfortunately i havnt got around to trying one on the wrist.
