Is it where it's stated that Wilsdorf had a specially made Rolex attached to the side of the Trieste? He wasn't alive when that happened, was he?

As far as I can tell, Rolex did not do anything in terms of quartz movement R&D until well after Seiko invented quartz movements in 1969. Why would Rolex help invent something that destroyed many Swiss (mechanical) watch houses.

I believe Wilsdorf was alive when the Trieste did the Marianas trench, but died shortly thereafter (I think, correct me if Im wrong).

The writing of that article is poor as it also puts the Explorer and the ExpII in the same paragraph as being designed for exploration. The Explorer didnt come onto the marketplace with Explorer on the dial until the year after Norgay summited (closely followed by Hillary

). The ExpII wasnt introduced until the early 1970s for speliologists, so quite a bit of time elapsed between the two.

And the Bond watch as quoted is also wrong

But besides all that, the brand is well known enough to make it in an online encyclopedia.
