New Money vs. Old Money

It's clear that new money guys buy more expensive watches, I was in Starbucks on Friday morning and while waiting in line I saw a SD, TT Sub and DJ, thank God I was wearing a Tudor

Then at lunch, I counted 4 more while in a small upscale eating place, so I started keeping count on my phone and through last night 23 Rolex's have been spotted......

Scottsdale is a new money town.

I spent some time in Scottsdale a couple of months ago and I agree. Plenty of new money flowing there. I think I saw more Ferrari's there then anywhere in SoCal.

It is hard work to pick rich parents and grandparents, called Old Money. It is easy to start from humble conditions and work your way up. New Money.

Lots of old (mostly oil) money where I live. Went to a very casual birthday party on friday night, lots of old money around. One guy there was a billionaire, who had no watch on. Kinda surprised me. I didn't see any Rolex there, but honestly wasn't looking as much as I normally would. Not sure why, but I blame it on all the kegs. When I looked at the guy worth over 1B, my only thought was how many watches I'd have if I was him haha.

New Money vs. Old Money

I don't think there's much of a correlation to be honest. I've been in old money towns and seen some pretty incredible watches. It just so happens that this is an expensive hobby so usually more money = more watches just like more money = more cars boats etc

I don't know, never really knew any old money folks. Bit depending on the area you are in there can be a lot of nice watches. Used to live in a fairly affluent area and everywhere you went there were nice watches, mainly Rolex. I would count around 30 a day when I was paying attention.

Now I love in a less flashy area and don't se all that many. Now that I don't see as many they don't seem as common and I want one more for some reason. When I saw them everywhere I had little desire to own one...weird...I guess it is just part of the "uniform" in certain circles, as I know because many are not in least knowledgable or interested in watches. I have made quite a few mistakes on trying to talk watches with a few.

The old money friends that I have, the men wear Patek and the women wear Cartier with diamonds, usually. No AP's and few Rolex's

New Money vs. Old Money

I hope everyone is fortunate enough to have a coffee shop better than Starbucks in their home town. That's all I have to add here.
