Just back from a trip to Italy. I'm sitting on an Alitalia flight from Rome to Bari, and next to me to the right is a guy with a new GMT. To the left of me is a pilot wearing a Date-just I believe (I couldn't see it too clearly), and 1 of the flight attendants had a SS Submariner. Pretty neat. I wasn't wearing my TT Sub since I didn't want to travel to Europe with it, but noticed the others...

Maybe yes, but they 're in a different kind of business ... surely not stealing watches or robbing tourists

Travel smart, live long. Traveled all around the world with my seiko, usally keeping a low profile. Blend in at all times, never stand out. IMHO. Wear the Rolex were you feel comfy!

I spent a whole year living and doing business in Moscow, travelling within Russia ... never had any problems having a very expensive Titanium/Gold Omega on my wrist. And that was back a few years ago when things were still a bit weird there ...
I have to admit that during the first days there, I was hiding it from public view...once I got used, I realised it was not necessary.
It is bad to stereotype places like that - but it is good to be careful, of course

Yes, I think that if you travel a lot you can enjoy and appreciate more a GMT or any good watch or generally nice things of life
It has to do with the aura of foreign places, the different people that you meet, the things that you buy - that extra boost in quality that lacks from everyday life and matches the quality of a fine wristwatch...
The problem is that if you do too much of traveling, it becomes so tiring; a good way to appreciate quiet life back at home again...

Yeah, but I don't speak any other language fluently and my wife and I just about lost our passport and cash in Budapest in 1993 in a little incedent. Not a nice felling considering our hotel was in Vienna. Ever since then we have left the valuable jewelry home when traveling out of the country.

I'm just back from the casino.

Spotted this evening were, two SS SubDates (mine and another player's) a white metal DateJust and a gold DayDate. I felt at home.

Unfortunately I finished 14/92 in the poker tournament and so didn't cash, but my Sub enjoyed it's first proper outing.
