1987 Submariner 168000 "Swiss Made" dial???
Hello Everyone,
I am new to this website, and need some help. I am looking at a 1987 Rolex Submariner ref 168000 from a local jewelry store not pawn shop. I am worried because the dial says "Swiss Made " at the bottom not "Swiss -T<25". I know the watch was sent back for maintenance about 3 years ago. Does this make the rolex less valuable?? |

Not sure would a service dial decrease the value?

Service dial in the eyes of a collector that wants all original or what is original to the period of the watch might consider it to be less valuable or desirable.

It decreases the value a couple hundred bucks if that; no big deal. It's not like an all-original 168000 pulls a significant premium over any other Sub Date anyway. Very cool reference though! I like the functionality of service dials.

The watch is in great shape, they are asking thirty five hundred for it. Is that a fair price?

The 168000 was the first Sub to sport 904L stainless steel. It was, essentially, the newer 16610 case/bracelet with the 3035 movement, a true transitional watch. Not many of them were made. A "Swiss Made" dial would indicate that the dial was changed to a Luminova dial at service, likely because the older tritium lume was no longer glowing. Nothing wrong with this if you want a fully functional watch.

If as described a good price, but you need to understand how much the cae has been polished, condition of bracelet, etc...
