My $95 Kenneth Cole dress watch bought new almost 15 years ago. 39mm, quartz movt, acrylic crystal, sunburst dial with no minute markers or lume. A great basic watch.

Although my watch collection now consists of only well-made mechanical watches (sans the Kenneth Cole), I'll never get rid of this one because it reminds me of when I bought watches simply because I liked the look. Didn't matter if it cost $5 and was made of plastic. I knew nothing about sapphire crystals, anti-magnetic mainsprings, chronometer ratings, or wrist-to-case size ratios. It was watch enjoyment at the simplest level. See it, like it, buy it.

I wear this one all the time to remind myself not to take this whole watch collecting thing too seriously and always try to find value in the most simple of things.

I have a Seiko Q somewhere here and it serves the same purpose. Keeps us grounded - just about any Q will keep better time but there is really no substitute for luxury, don't you think?

I completely agree. A fine time piece is always exciting to slip on the wrist.

Nice post. Made me think. I wore my wedding watch, and an older gshock, for well over a decade and never missed a beat. I joined a couple of the online communities somewhere around 2010 and since then must have gone through over 12-15 pieces, each increasingly more valuable and hardly any of them sticking around for longer than a few months.

This year, I've been giving it some thought, planning to downsize to 3-4 watches and holding off on any acquisitions for a while. I need to program myself to enjoy what I have before buying more!!!!

Thank you for posting...it was a thought provoking post for me at least.

My dad bought this one for my HS graduation.

My first "nice" watch my wife bought me 7-8 years ago. EcoDrive Perpetual Calendar. Got me interested nicer complicated pieces.

And I have a G-Shock problem. I think. My wife and kids get them for me for birthdays and Christmas etc.

Love inexpensive watches with stories. I cannot afford to get variety from my DSSD and DJ with a PP or ALS right now.
