Track day

Good morning guys. I'd like to take this time to share i will be going to the track for the W.E.C race in Austin, Texas for World Endurance. I am really excited and have not been able to sleep. It's 4:40 am and i am going to pull out of town at 6:00am. I've asked for some advice and guidance on a DSLR for shooting at the track and getting good shots, and to those who helped, i'd like to say thanks.

Anyways, i just felt like sharing. What's a better way to start the weekend than going to the track and getting to meet world class drivers and see multi-million dollar cars and teams under the night sky? Pictures will come, but i bid adieu.

See ya.

I am assuming it is held a COTA? If so, that is one beautiful facility, I have seen a couple of USF1 there and it is an amazing venue! Have fun and looking forward to your pics!

Yup, been to both moto gp races they've had. Even had VIP last time, made it even better. Free drinks and food, great view looking down over the pits.

So.... don't seem to be able to find any results for this.
How did it end up?

I wish, but next MOTOGP race, i will have that special pass that allows me to ride around the track. MOTOGP needs to come back quick.

I don't know who won yet. Saturday it was all sunny and nice until the rain came and it came down hard. Last time i heard it was Toyota 1/2 sweep with Audi 3rd, Porsche 4th, Audi 5th and Porsche 6th. Then the rain came, red flagged the race for about 40 minutes and then as i was leaving, i heard that it was Audi who took the lead for both P1 and P2 but were 10+ seconds ahead of the rest of the pack. I would have stayed but my camera suffered condensation and i was too soaked and wet to really do anything else. I had prepared for a drizzle, but not a down pour.

This is how the track looked before the rain, which was quite enjoyable. Sitting in the shade of Turn 1 bleachers...

And when it came down...

The Porsche unfortunately slid right off into the gravel without wrecking but was bad, real bad. Like Le Mans 2014, but Le Mans is bigger so the time they spent out was longer than here.

The Toyota no. 8 had 10 seconds on his team mate right off the bat.

In the paddock which was open, i was afforded the opportune time to get good pictures. The Konica Minolta Daytona Prototype was moving through and i snapped a pic or two. My favorite car, the liveries looks good.

Into Turn 2

The Patron PC car came around once, which i did not notice until the second time around with body damage. He finished the race like this.

And one of the most beautiful cars:

I had a good time, despite the temperatures. They weren't hot but i like cooler temperatures but i digress. Walking down pit lane Friday was cool. I have somewhere a shot of pit lane exit up to turn one, which was interesting. For me to see these cars that i always wanted to see is a dream come true really. Some people take their memories and gratification in by VIP pass, autographs and memorabilia, and that is alright. I'd like to a bit of all of it, but most importantly is the pictures that i take. The Audi R18 is my best example. For every 1 good picture i have of it, there were 10 that tired and didn't have it. That is my reward.

Lastly what was very cool was to hear the differences in the engines between the Ferrari 458's and the Corvettes. I like both sounds but the Ferrari's are, as you might think, a scream. Their exhaust notes are high and shrill, fast and harsh. Like a slicing noise that cuts through everything and your ears. I loved it. I felt the scream and the rattle in my hat and on the ground. Awesome.

The Corvette is low, deep and a rumble, like a growling movement that is slow but hard hitting. It shakes you roughly, like an old steam engine.

The difference between them was so cool. Corvettes rev max on the tac at about 9000RPM and the Ferrari's go up to about 12,000RPM. The 458's were always in competition with the Corvettes for a while, each next to each other and racing. Sometimes the Corvette would be ahead and thus the sound from the car accelerating while the Ferrari was downshifting was cool. As it upshifted, the Corvette really sounded good, deep, rumbling and slow. When it was maxed out, the Ferrari upshifted and absolutely drowned out anything that was near it. It was loud. As i said, the sound was a slicing scream. The Corvette's sound subsided as the Ferrari took over and they were gone. It was really cool.

With the Porsche and the Aston there, their sound was nonexistent with the first rumble of the Corvette and then by the scream of the Ferrari.

Yes, there are many advantages of VIP. I think, and i am most likely going to try to get some sort of VIP for F1. If WEC was busy, then F1 is crazy. Parking is my main concern. With a VIP pass, i can sit anywhere, get pictures from anywhere.
