Russian submarine in Sweden
I've been following this for a little while and find the entire thing fascinating.
I do hope the situation is resolved peacefully and all go home safe. http://www.thelocal.se/20141021/swed...-hits-day-five |

Yeah, I've been watching it also and I'm not thrilled at the prospects here...

It's gamesmanship. The same thing when they fly close to or into North American airspace. They are testing responses. Or they are just trying to peeve off a Western Ally.

I've been following this as well - but need some education on why this is such a big deal. There are foe subs everywhere - for all I know there could be a sub sitting right off shore here in San Francisco. This is all part of the game. So why is this any different? Is this a first strike move?

My guess: Putin in contemplating annexing Sweden. Russia needs a quality car production capability, and this is his way of acquiring Volvo. The infamous Lada needs some competition.

Nothing like a handmade SAAB. They were wonderful cars in the 80s. Used to have a 1986 SPG. Was a superb car in its time.

Yes agree I had one of the first 99 Turbo way back in 1979 it was a great car had in for many years later had the 900 turbo. But Saab now are out of production factory closed its a shame as they were good cars. The last car Saab made was in April 2011 sad as they were a real drivers car.

I find it quite interesting too.
The foreign entity spotted in near Stockholm was apparently near sensitive military assets which is a big reason Sweden is racing to find what it is. |

But really it may just be a "get even" for that bad day Vlad had assembling that bedside table he ordered from Ikea...

Yes, the comments I wish I could make about a certain geographical location. Nothing would surprise me when considering recent events.

Nothing much else in the news here.
I'm sure there's plenty of Sub's in our waters too from time to time, but we keep quiet, I guess that's a better way to investigate what they're really up to. Once media gets hold of things they usually transform "fact" into "fiction". For some reason invading our airspace always hits the media, but usually weeks/days after the event. The "mothership" is strange too.

"why this is such a big deal." Because if something is worth risking an international incident or worse, loss of a crew plus half of billion to 2 billion dollars by going inside someones 12 mile limit of territorial waters (and if true in the case way inside), then it is worth protecting and finding who the bleep was doing it. Training aside. My only fear is that there is a loss of a crew, otherwise force the b'stards to the surface and quarantine the equipment for a week to confirm it was not used in smuggling illegal contraband. Not that this dance does not happen with any other countries Yes.
