The SD and Sub Ratio

Not to sure if it's been asked before, but does anybody know how many subs tend to get sold vs the SD. In all the watch shops I've looked in over the years, not all of them carry the sub but hardly any carry stock of the SD. So even with the current models, how many more 14060M get sold compared to the 16600.

Thanks

I must admit, I've never seen a Sea Dweller in an AD window - maybe you have to order them beforehand.

A couple of months ago, when buying my sub date, my AD had the SD, sub date and no date in stock, as well as GMT's in black, pepsi, coke and the new GMT 2. Many other watches too, DD's, DJ'S, TT SUBs (both blue and black) and many ladies models.
I find it hard to belive so many AD's are so short on stock.

Mine generally keeps an SD in stock- along with either a Sub date or no-date model. He always tries to keep a GMT around, but has had very few Sub LV's and GMT II-c's.

Sounds like your AD is definitely open for business!

Sorry to say have seen loads of SDs in windows in London. Every time I walk past an ADs window they have a SD in it. Seen less subs - never a sub date but more often a no-date. SDs are certainly not rare in London.

I asked my AD late last year and at both their stores it is a 6:1 ratio. The Sub is much more popular. Just another reason I bought the Sea-Dweller

Near enough!! The SS Sub-date is still one of the most popular sports watches out there! You just can't put down a true champion!!!

My AD has had a SD in the case everytime I've visited. I've seen a few people wearing them around town. I've seen a TON of Subs... I spotted two just today.

The two AD's I frequent always seem to have an SD in the case. I have yet to see someone wearing one though although I see the Sub fairly frequently.

I think the 6:1 ratio for subs to SD is right. Especially when considering all the gold iterations of the SubDate, not to mention the SubND.

I'm thinking more like 100:1. Seriously I've spotted hundreds of Subs, but I've only spotted 2 SDs.

I've seen only about 3 SD's "in the flesh", as opposed to hundreds of Subs.

over the last month or so, when deciding between a sd and gmt II, out of the 4 ADs i visited, 2 had them in stock, the other 2 said they could get them within the week from another store in the chain.

Why don't you start a poll to find out!!
I have seen both several times in different AD's windows.
Personally I have owed 1 SD and 3 Subs. So that probably shows which way that I would vote!
But saying that I do like the look of the new DSSD

Hi Neil I didn't try the one on from M&W as it was a couple of years ago, however I was lucky enough to join two clubs in February this year. The Rolex owners club and the SD club

And here it is, any chance to show off my lovely SD

Great looking Sea Dweller - I'll have to have a proper look at one some day.

YES!

I've only spotted one SD in the wild, but a number of Subs. I wonder too...

I'm sure the ratio varies from country to country but I reckon on a ration of 1 SD for every 10 Subs sold in the UK. Like others, I often see Subs in the wild but never SDs.

Perhaps we should have a rolling poll to log when we spot a either a sub-date or SD. We'd soon build up an international picture.

Update - poll now added, try this http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=38479
