AWCI Certification: CW21 cs CMW

Hi,

I have a Zenith Daytona to service. And after hearing the price quote from RSC, I leaning towards finding an independent. My top two candidates are both AWCI certified. However, one of them is CW21, the other is CMW.

Common sense says that the CMW would be a better candidate. However, the CW21 guy was more passionate and seems genuinely excited to spa my watch.

How much more weight should I give the CMW certificate?

The CW21 watchmaker has met the latest requirements and training and this is the requirement that Rolex Watchmakers must have

The Certified Master Watchmaker (CMW), unless he has the latest requirements and training and has the "21" after his CMW, may not have the continued training that AWCI has required since 2005 to get that 21.

Wow! Even the 21 matters! Thanks Tools. No he doesn't have the 21. So I guess I have my guy.

Theoretically, is there much difference between CW21 and CMW21? I went on the ACWI website and read the requirements, but have very little sense as to what any of it means.

I would ask the cw21 watchmaker if he's well versed in this movement, if yes, that's who I would go with. Experience is just as, if not more important than certifications alone. Ideally he should have both. This movement isn't as simple to deal with as the vast majority of the Rolex range.
