What is my panda dial made of???
I asked this once before assuming dials for white gold models would be made of gold and platinum dials would be made of platinum and non precious metals would be made of brass, but I was informed they're all made from brass.
However, before I had my panda dial fit into my 116509, I looked under the loupe at the back of the panda dial and it was indeed hallmarked with '750' indicating it business made of 18k gold. In the 2nd picture of my dial, the 750 is just south west of the centre hole. The 3rd picture is the back of a slate Arabic daytona dial. Here's the original thread: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...+dial+material

If they are hallmarked 750 then they have to be 18k gold don't they? Would certainly make sense!

Since the photo above says both 750 and 18K this would be a good assumption...

From memory isn't gold twice as heavy as brass?
A simple weighting of both an SS and WG dial should give a good indictation |

I read that all Rolex Dials are either gold or pearl or meteorite or platinum.
Not sure if that's accurate. |

More like brass with a lick of paint?
But don't believe all you read on the web.

That's just the rough finishing on the back, Rolex movements, rear of dials aren't meant to be viewed by non watchmakers

To me it sounds strange, why paint gold?
My Platinum DayDate dial is at least made in brass.

I believe your Daytona is WG so the dial is solid gold. Maybe this helps...

The panda Arabic is also used on TT models. The dial plate in the pic is not showing hallmarks - simply engraved 750. Hard to explain why someone would do that on a brass plate.
Here's a discussion on what hallmarks look like: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=265249 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi The picture could well be yours, it was taken from the previous thread on this (link in my first post) to show the stamps. My panda dial does have 750 stamped but it's not showing on the picture. It does now seem clear that they are made of white gold and platinum dials are made of platinum as shown the picture 2 posts previous.

I thought panda dials were made out of pandas!
Jokes, I love all animals. Beautiful watches. Personally love the meteorite dial. |
