How much is a Comex Sub worth?
My girlfriend's dad was admiring my Sub LV, and happened to say "oh yes, I used to have a similar one, but it said Comex on it". Apparently he used to work for them as a diver, and the bracelet broke and it was lost when he was working under water in Singapore Harbour!
So if anyone is particularly keen, you knwo where to look!! |

I have this dream of bumping into a former Comex diver who sells me his old, beat up, not working Comex sub for a couple hundred bucks :) it hasn't happened yet, but I can dream right?
As to your question about cost. Take a look at the recent Antiquorum Rolex sports watch auction. Certain Comex's reached prices of $100K+. Here's a link to the actual selling prices for all lots in the auction: http://mycatalog.antiquorum.com/lots...?auctionid=204 |

It all depends on which model Submariner, condition AND B&P's:
5513 5514 1680 16800 168000 16610 Yep, I agree with Steve, entry point about $75,000 for a loose watch (ie. no B&P's). John. |

Yeah, I dont know the exact details of the watch, he isnt a great watch enthusiast - but the watch was given to him during his time working with Comex. As mentioned, it was just a nice watch at the time, used for a purpose, and certainly not the collectors' piece it is today. Its funny because how could anyone ever imagine that something with additional branding, which was fairly irrelevant to the watch itself, would be such an important item!

To me it is worth
To me it is worth no more than a regular model. I would not wear one unless I had worked for them. Yeah there might be some history there but is that little COMEX logo on the dial really worth $100000; not to me.

I wonder if it's a consideration for the divers employed by Comex that they will get a watch worth $75k as part of their employment?

they used to give the comex Rolex out like sweetes years ago. In fact up till about 8-10 years ago if you had done 10 years with comex, or stolt as it became, as a diver they used to give you a Rolex.
I have a number of friends with the comex Rolex and I must admit they do look nice. Just for a bit of info Comex was bought by a company called Seaways who then merged with other companys and became Stolt offshore. The compay name has now changed again to Acergy. There you go a bit of History Regards M |

I don't want to hi-jack this topic but I inherited a Rolex from my granddad and just recently figured out it was a comex. I didn't now much about watches before I did some research about it. It is a 5514 from 1974, not the greatest condition. But I am also wondering what the prices are for the comex watches, what could mine be worth? I does not have the comex logo on the dial, but I guess that they hadn't started with that yet.

The 5514 is SPECIFIC for Comex ONLY.
There should also be a HEV present and some engraving on the caseback. John. |

In the Antiquorum auctions held last month a Comex Submariner went for about USD 250K.
Model: 1979 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Comex Sea-Dweller Ref. 1680. Price: US$248,800. Production: Only 50 of these watches were ever produced. Worse, having produced for Comex, these watches would go back to Rolex for service and upgrading every six months or so, and had their dials, hands and crystal updated. The Comex Sea-Dweller sold at the Antiquorum auction was one of the few that did not and retained its original appearance. This watch was never available for sale to the general public and the total number of Rolex watches produced for Comex in their 27 year partnership probably does not exceed 2000 watches.
