Tudor options to Datejust or Oyster Perpetual?
Hello TRF,
I'm looking to get my first crown, but seeing that I may have budgetary constraints, I was wondering if you guys can suggest which Tudor models would serve as an alternative to the above mentioned watches? I'm looking for a smallish watch (40 mm or less), non-black dial, no-date model preferred (though not absolute). Looking forward to your suggestions. Thanks in advance! |

I think you can consider an older version of the Explorer. Heritage, aesthetics, ruggedness all in one.
I will prefer a 'more' versatile watch as my first crown, so that over a Dj, though not saying that Djs are any less versatile. Just a slight preference on that. Else an older reference of most Datejusts can prob fit in, 16234 or 16200 for instance. A Tudor day-date might also be in contention for me in your shoes. So in short, Exp>Datejust>Tudor Date or Day-Date Good to also indicate your budget. My first crown was an Exp II Polar. |

Budget-wise, I'm thinking around 4 to 4.5k USD (?).
I considered the Explorer l, but most of my other watches are black dialed, so I'd like to avoid another black dialed watch. What's really been catching my eye is a blue or silver dialed 116000. I'm kind of on the fence about the date and cyclops, but I think a Datejust is classic for a Rolex, so I'm considering it as well. Thanks for the inputs re: Tudor Date/ Day-Date. I'll look into that! |

The Oyster Perpetual isn't much beyond your budget, a little research, a friendly AD or a seller on this site might be able to put one on your wrist without much of a stretch. And yes, the silver dial is my favorite, too.
Besides, we all go a smidge beyond our budget, don't we? ;-) Good luck.

Could get a 40mm Explorer II within that budget.

These feel more like tool watches for me, so I'm not really considering them.. For now. :)

Get what you really want. 116000 Oyster Perpetual is $5500 full retail IIRC. Trusted seller here or maybe a friendly AD will do better. Don't compromise. You'll only wish you'd gone for the real thing later. Wait and save if need be. You'll be happier long term.

Shop the ADs and then check the trusted sellers here.
You will find the one that smiles at you. |
