Asking for help on this Explorer II
Hello everyone! I would like to ask your help on this Explorer II. I'm told its a 1991. There is a flake of lume missing off the second hand and the dial seems to have a different patina from the hands. Please let me know your opinions as to the condition, any other issues you see and what you think this should sell for. Thanks for your help!

Looks authentic to me judging from the two photos. It is fairly common for the lume on the dial and hands to discolor at different rates or also possible that the hands were replaced. Value for the watch only without box and papers... in the low $3k range, like $3200-3400. You can have the numerals on the bezel re-enameled (repainted black) inexpensively.

I would avoid this one, a piece of lume has dropped out of the seconds hand and could have dropped through the date window into the movement. And the remaining piece could do the same.

authentic but heavily worn... possibly overpolished on the bezel

Looks legit but I'd pass. There are so many of these out there. Get one that has been used less hard.

Thanks, everyone. Normally I wouldn't consider such a heavily worn watch, but I thought for a casual everyday "tool" watch I would wear it. Also, the seller is asking $2900 so my downside would be minimal if I changed my mind later...

The Explorer II should have the hour hand at the bottom of the stack. In the fakes it is the GMT hand at the bottom. This is due to different movement used.
It is the tell 99% of the time. |
