Freccione Question

Chaps

I collected my Freccione from being serviced by my local AD last week and I have noticed that the date changes over at 1.30am rather than at midnight.

Is this normal or is it something I should just live with. I am conscious that this is not an up to date model and was wondering if I am being a bit fussy expecting a midnight change over.

Regards

Mick

It's something to do with the way the hands are set, rather than the movement, I believe. When are we going to see some pics of your new acquisition?

Hi Adam

So do you know if the hands can be changed or is it fait accompli. The honest truth is that I am in bed fast asleep most midnights, so it's no big deal.

I am in Spain at the moment and it is really tanking it down with rain. Once it stops which is supposed to happen in 3 days time, I will get out and take a couple of pics in the bright sunshine.

I have to admit that I am really begining to like this watch. The AD replaced the plexi and that has made the watch look a lot better.

The only criticism I have of the Freccione is that the bracelet is poor compared to the modern ones but despite that, I really do like it.

Regards

Mick

It's a simple adjustment for a watchmaker, assuming no worn parts, which may need to be replaced.

Hi Vincent

There should be no worn parts because it has just been serviced by a very old and established Rolex AD.

Hi Mick - Well, they were a bit sloppy with that part of the service then, weren't they!? Like I said, it's an easy fix for a competent watchmaker, so I'd take it back and have them adjust it. Nothing to do with being an old/vintage watch.

Cheers,
Karl

They can get them within a minute or so before/after midnight.

When the hands are removed, they should be placed back on the watch at midnight when the date changes. Once the hands have been properly attached, you wind the crown moving the hands to verify the hands operate properly and the date changes correctly. If these steps aren't followed, you'll have issues with the hands dragging or touching causing the watch to stop or the date not changing properly.
