Howdy Folks,

I posted this in general and they said this would be the place to get more information.

New member here and I could use some help. I came across a disassembled Rolex GMT Master today at an estate sale and decided to to a gamble on it. I've figured out that is a 1955 and it's missing the hour, minute and second hands. Other than that, I'm totally lost. Is this worth getting fixed? If so, who would work on it? If not, do I just chunk it or is it worth any thing as a parts watch? Any info at all would be greatly appreciated. If I could get some sort of ball park on repair that would help a lot. We just had our first kiddo so I'm not sure I can spent $5000 to get it fixed.

As stated in the other thread, this is a very important GMT watch.

Keep the parts separated and sealed in small zip-lock baggies and get in touch with a watch maker who specializes in Rolex restorations.

These 6542's go for $50K+ at vintage watch auctions.

Absolutely worth fixing!!! It looks beautiful. If nothing else, I'd keep the dial separate from the other bits and pieces and make sure it's well protected. Same goes for that stunning bezel and case. You don't want those parts banging around a box together. Contact a Rolex vintage restoration specialist to see what's needed. I'd call ABC in LA, because that's who I use for more minor work, but there might be better places for a more extensive project like this. How much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking? Woah what a find! As other have said, keep everything separate and sealed. Check the classified section on TRF and VRF for the correct hands and bracelet. There are independent watchmakers where you can take this for a full restoration (ABC comes to mind, although I'm sure the experts can chime in on other places as well

)

If that is a radium dial, I really really really hope you were wearing a mask and didn't touch anything in that container. No, I'm not kidding...
