Watch specialist denied trade in from past purchase
I purchased a watch from a well known watch specialist who deal in vintages a few years ago, when I inquired with them about doing a trade plus cash on my end for a different watch they had available, my inquiry was denied! I'm just puzzled by this experience. has anyone experienced this before?

The dealer doesn't want to do the trade. I am not sure what is so odd about the scenario. Perhaps he doesn't have a need for whatever watch you wish to trade back to him or perhaps the particular watch you own isn't selling well. These are all just hypotheticals as I have no idea what watches we are talking about but once a sale is done, it's done. It doesn't mean the seller needs to take the watch back years later for another piece plus cash.
Sell your timepiece yourself on here, you'll likely get a slightly better price than trade value. |

I would identify with this if you were talking about inquiring a few weeks after the purchase and assuming the watch was in the same condition, but it's been years! Sounds like the watchmaker simply does not want that watch right now. Seems fine to me.

Could be that the watch you're interested in is on consignment.

There could be a ton of reasons why he doesn't want to take the watch back as a trade in, and the majority will be for good rather than bad reasons.
I wouldn't sweat about it, just sell the watch yourself. As stated, you'll probably get a better price. I see no reason in disclosing the specialists' name here. Don't see what good can come from that. This is between you and him. Good luck

Puzzled? Why? The " watch specialist " or any dealer is not obligated to take in a trade or do any transaction that they do not wish to...not sure what the issue is

Unless the company has a published policy to always trade up I can see no reason they would be obligated to swap. Sold is sold.

Unless the OP had stipulated some sort of agreement with the dealer I do not see where the issue is. He/she has no obligations to take a trade in.

Perhaps it is a vintage piece that has went down a little bit and he does not want to insult you. As others have already said, could be a number of reasons really.

People could advise you better if you provide more information like watch you bought and watch you want to trade it in for?

Unless there is a policy in place regarding upgrades, I see nothing wrong with the denial.....
