Is That "SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER..." Mean A Lot To You?
Hi, yes is that words "SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED" mean to you? Do you like that words? Are you buy a Rolex because that words? Or you think that a lil' bit too much?
Me, I don't really care about that words. I choose the old model written "Officially Chronometer...". More nice to me. What about you? Please your reply here. Thanks Guys!!! Best Regards, TR. |

It doesn't really matter to me either way, but it looks nicer on the DJ/DD dials...

Let me put it this way. I would rather have a Rolex with the words SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED printed on the dial than one without!!

Imho, most Rolex dials are already superlatively overloaded.
I don't need the RBR which is constantly reminding me that I am wearing a Rolex. I don't need COSC nomenclature on my Rolex dial, either. Imho, COSC is just marketing hype and not a true indicator of the precision of a mechanical watch. The Sub 14060M and 14060m COSC have the SAME movt. Cal. 3130, but the COSC rated version does not necessarily run more accurately just due to its COSC rating. COSC or not COSC - at the end of the day, the precision of a watch depends on the wearing habits of the owner. Adjusted to the individual wearing habits of the owner, most modern watches can be adjusted to run well within COSC specs.

I think it is unnecessary. That's like porsche saying "This is a fast car" on it somewhere. I need glasses. I read it as SUPERLAXATIVE CHRONOS WATER-METER OFFICE OF THE CIA ALL CERTIFICATED

I once and for a long time did care very much about the words 'superlative chronometer officially certified', it was to some degree ignorance and to some degree arrogance.
I (much to my regret) only discovered this recently instead of years ago. Rolex marketing and my own misplaced snobbery by notions of quality were perhaps partly to blame. Then I found a watch like this (which I now greatly regret not having focused upon and appreciated many years ago). I paid the penalty in $$$ So for those out there don't knock the lack of those 4 words, they are great words but their absence is not necessarily important at all.

I would argue that COSC is insurance. Your watch must keep within specific limits and if it fails to do so rolex, omega breitling will fix it. Im NOT sure if a non COSC is subject to this same type of "insurance".
TR - Im so glad you got the ND sub rather than the SD! Great choice

Words mean nothing to me. If they wanted to let you know it had a "chronometer" movement they could simply put the word CHRONOMETER somewhere on the dial without the rest of the fancy-build-up-the certified movement text. Most people don't know what it means anyway.

That 4 Words sound a bit arrogance to me. Many Rolex Haters laugh to that words. I hate 'em when they attack Rolex with that words.

I am ambivelant about it, but 2 lines when "CHRONOMETER" could say it as well, is a bit of overkill. I sometimes wish my Explorer II had the coronet and ROLEX Oyster Perpetual Date on the upper part of the dial, and only the EXPLORER II on the bottom, or even with the SCOC lingo, the EXPLORER II on the bottomw would look better.

I don't mind the words, but just one "Chronometer" would do. I do object to the RBR. Messy.

I don't really mind seeing the COSC printing on the dial, despite the crowded conditions on the Sub or other watches. What really counts for me it that the movement is so!
Yet, I still have a great admiration of the non-COSC 14060 and especially the 5513.

It's an extra hundred bucks on a $7000 watch. Why shouldn't it be a certified Swiss chronometer?

I prefer the COSC description to be absent. I really do dislike it. It is pretentious and unnecessary. How can it be SUPERLATIVE with an "accuracy" of -4to +6 secs?

Rolex are the only ones allowed to be "Superlative" because their watches are more accurate than others certified by COSC (standard is -4 to +6 sec per day)
Rolex is -1/+5 sec per day (-1/+3 sec per day with parachrom hairspring in 5 professional and milgauss) or so they claim.... |
