Winding Question

Hey everyone I was wondering if I need to send my AP for service. I fully wind the watch manually (around 40 times) the night before I wear it again in the morning. However, 8 hours within the day the watch stops even though I have been wearing it. I have to re-wind it twice in a day usually for it to continue to run. So this is my question, shouldn't the watch be able to continue to run without the initial winding due to movement of my hands, or is something wrong with my watch. Please let me know all about the winding responsibilities for the AP royal oak 15400 because I might be doing something wrong. Thanks!

Sounds like it may need service. The only thing I'd maybe suggest is winding it in the morning and then wear it. That should get it wound up by the evening and then when you take it off it should make it through the night. Does it keep good time and has it ever been serviced?

Yes it keeps time well and no it has never been serviced. I will try winding it in the mornings now and see if it is able to make it through the day. Should I be winding it at morning and night, or only in the morning?

It seems to me it needs to be looked at. Not sure what the power reserve is but I'd think it would be more than approximately 16 hours (assuming you are getting 8 hours sleep) even if you didn't put the watch on in the morning and wear it. Something doesn't seem right.

I never wind my 15400 manually after initial reset and it keeps going for a couple of days when I take it off for prolonged time. I wear it all day long though, but usual office activity during the day, nothing really active

I would suggest you put it in a winder when you take it off, it will get more power reserve.
I know, some say no and others say yes. But I never had issues with any of my watches (touchwood) even if they're always in the winder...

Winder debate aside, a winder isn't the solution. His watch doesn't have an adequate power reserve. After a full wind it stops in 16 hours even when he's worn it for 8 of those.

The 3120 inside the 15400 has a power reserve of 60 hours, so it sounds like it needs a trip to the service center.

Didn't you just get this in the last week or so? I'd just return it to the dealer, or seek a refund from whomever you got it from.

Power reserve is definitely an issue. Also sounds like the rotor winding mechanism is not working if you're wearing it and it stops. Or maybe you are too stationary!
