Daily watch

I'm sure this had been tossed out many times...but I get the sense they people love giving their opinions on daily beaters...

However...this is for those who don't have the entire rolex lineup.

I'd like to hear more from those who have two or three rollies. I have a SubC and a BLNR. SubC a grad gift and the BLNR from my wife.

So I love my SubC but it doesn't have a date! When I'm in clinic...I always glance at my watch to get the date, which makes me wear my BLNR more often. But the BLNR is too flashy for everyday clinic. I catch patients glancing at it all the time and I find myself covering it up under paper or behind my back....oddly people staring at my watch makes me feel somewhat uncomfortable (especially patients).

The BLNR is def my favorite, but I still want to wear my SubC, I'm just finding it harder to wear....I just keep reaching for the BLNR every morning!

How do people deal with this? My SubC just isn't gettin any love....I never thought I would have this issue!

Any thoughts?

You can always check the date on your cell phone.
Since it's the same all day you only need to check it once.

If the lack of a date is your only problem couldn't you just memorise it before you go to work?

Or wear your SubC and ask a patient for the date....tell them a watch without a date couldn't be worth that much.

Agreed. I really like the blnr and sometimes wish I chose it over the expii but my patients definitely would notice it. They noticed my PAM and would comment "looks expensive" even though they didn't know what it was. Switched it out for a seiko 007 until I got the expii. Have not had any comment yet (except from a resident on rounds) and glad I chose it...not gonna lie though I really like the blnr and the white gold Pepsi is my current Grail...along with an aquanot. No easier answers for you...

Also, I want to add that I completely indeintify with the self consciousness you described and that you should feel wrong for your concern. Many will say "wear what you like and others be damned" but to me that takes away from the enjoyment. Also the situation you are describing, and that I have experienced as well, is more unique than simple coworkers/friends/etc.... The doctor-pt. relationship can be tenuous and I would not like to heap on other stressors, however insignificant they may be (in the grand scheme of things).

I would say, flip both and pickup a 116610 or 116600.

When I got my first Rolex in 2010, a 16613 TT bluesy sub, I basically retired the rest of my collection in favor of my new favorite which became my daily wear for 5 years. fast forward to 2015 and I just picked up a new 116681 YMII and I haven't looked back yet.

I only feel self concious in certain social settings about not wanting my watch to be seen by certain people. The rest of the time as well as at work, success is celebrated and I wear mine proudly. Everyone appreciates my watches and they enjoy working with someone whose clearly doing it right.

I started off flat broke and started my own company from the ground up all on my own over 10 years ago. I wear my watches with pride, as should you!

I would flip the sub for another option with date. I wear my GMT2c to clinic and feel it's sometimes a bit flashy too, so I get what you mean. Those days, I usually reach for the datejust. More low key IMO.

I appreciate your position, and have to say I also love the BLNR and found the PCL's a bit flash for my taste so I bought a 97200 (Sub C) bracelet for my GMT and now I can't seem to take it off for more than a few days!

You could also save some money by simply having the PCL's brushed on your GMT and can always have them polished again in the future if you miss them.

I felt the BLNR was too flashy as well, even though I absolutely love it. I decided to have the polished center links on the bracelet brushed, to make it feel more like an every day watch. Some of the purists here don't care for it, but for me, that did the trick.

You are too conscious about your watch. Wear the BLNR and enjoy it.

There are other medics on this forum with solid gold pieces and wear them with no issues.

Your patients only care that they leave in a better shape than when they came in.

Use the bezel of your SubC to keep track of the date maybe?

Looks like this is a common occurrence! Not having the date makes me lazy, but it's still a great feature.

I would flip the SubC but it was a grad gift from my parents and my first rolex. Basically would never get rid of it. I feel like I wouldn't have this issue if it was a 116610...

The pcls definitely make the watch flashier. I'm not sure I would be able to brush them since I like the look.

I think the SubC when I'm not at work seems to be the best approach thus far...or just wear the BLNR everyday!

Obvious solution: trade the Sub for a Sub Date.

I prefer having just one watch. I'd hate to have to decide between 2 (or many more) beauty's each morning. It seems however the only way to stay monogamous is to stay off of TRF.

Several thoughts.

There's no such thing as an $8k beater

Rollie is not what they're called.

Why would anyone spend so much money on a watch and not wear it??

OP, a few ingenious folks have discovered that a nodate sub can show the date by rotating the bezel. Today is the 5th, so the bezel triangle would be at the 5 minute marker.

To be fair, the time is also a pretty easy thing to come by without a watch, too.

Stop over thinking it. I am a resident and I wear my Rolex and Panerai watches all the time. BLNR during the week and Sub on the weekends is my advice to you. I have same rotation except I wear an Explorer II at work. You have the perfect weekday/weekend combination. You should wear your "dressier" watch during clinic. I wore a two tone Navitimer every day when I was in the Navy. I could care less what anyone thought.

I say sell the Sub C and get a Sub C Date or an Explorer 2 Polar. I wear my Polar most of the time and have had no comments at all. Maybe it's the white dial or the "allbrushed bracelet but it's genuinely " under the radar" more than my '08 Sub

8k is a drop in the bucket to some (not this fella) so it can be considered a beater by them. Just because it's expensive to use does not make it so for all.

I knew it was only a matter of time till someone HAD to comment on the OPs use of the naughty nickname...

To the OP. Wear what you are comfortable with and try not to worry about the possible jealousy of others. I can tell you that very few enlisted men wear a Rolex, but I do with pride. I worked hard for it and so did you.
