Advice for watch sale

Sold a BLNR. Shipping with parcel pro. Buyer made the following payments:

1) 10% deposit as paypal gift
2) 50% paypal with seller protection
3) 40% paypal gift

Any drawback to accepting these gift payments or multiple payments. Any other risks I should consider?

Thanks,

Gift is dangerous for both parties. Paypal will not offer seller protection.

If the buyer decides to report fraudulent activity, the money will be returned. When you call paypal to let them know you were scammed, they will ask you why you did not follow their guidelines (pay their fees).

I have been burned before with gift. Never will go that route again.

be patient, find your watch from a seller on here with solid references and wire them the $. Equal to maybe a few bucks more, but worth the piece of mind. I'm not a seller on here (just a buyer), so i'm not plugging myself.

Is the transaction still going on? If so, a bit late to ask.

He's selling, not buying. At least that's what I understood.

Yes to confirm I am selling. Paypal gift offer no fees, but a quick google search and I can see that a lot of people have been scammed.

Im the buyer. I sent the 40% gift to save the seller 3% paypal fees. Then the rest as a invoice. I have nothing to hide. The seller has my money. I'm still waiting on the watch. I told the seller if he is not happy with this kind of transaction just refund me my money. I don't know how to prove my credibility. He has my cell phone, business phone, home address and business address. I even sent extra money for 2 day shipping. I should of just purchase from a AD. I think its just best to refund my money. I tried and i'm tired.

Well this just got interesting.

The paying as a gift does save the seller the PayPal fees as buyer indicated. However the protection that paying for a good or service provides is then lost. Most sellers will accept PayPal as long as the buyer pays the 3% fee. If you both agreed on this payment arrangement I do not see why the op would not honor the transaction and ship the watch. As buyer has said, if seller has changed his mind then refund the money and everyone can move on.

Yes the agreement was for me to send 10% deposit gift, Then 40% payment as gift. Then the rest 50% as invoice payment. All payments have been completed on Sunday. This payment arrangement was offered by me to save the seller the 3%paypal feel. We both agreed on the transaction. He still is afraid i am going to scam him. I don't know what else to do other than ask for a refund and move on and just purchase from a AD. Sure the savings is ok but just not worth the headache a risk. So now the seller has the money and the watch......

If someone can enlighten me on how a seller can get screwed accepting money as a gift please let me know.

As far as the portion you accepted as a payment, that can always be disputed, refunded, claimed as lost, stolen, not as described, etc.. but that is the problem in general with Paypal and sellers.

Personally, I dont accept PP if I dont have to. If you dont have the money to wire and trust me then buy from someone else. On the flip side, I love to pay with PP when I buy things because if the seller plays even one game I can send it back and know I am getting all my money back.

Having an issue right now with a watch I bought off of ebay and paid using PP. The seller has no idea how it works and is about to get a chargeback for trying to be a slick scammer..

Sounds like mutual trust was not established before money exchanged...
I would give/seek refund and move on...

How do you obtain a mutual trust before the exchange? We have spoken on the phone. We have emails documents with the agreement contract. Etc...I have given my cell number, My business number, my home address, my business address.....I have given these options to the seller. Please send the watch as we agreed or just refund my money. I will stay off the thread and see what the seller decides.

I think at this point, the OP needs to ship the watch today, or refund the buyer.

There is always a risk in doing business like this. If you aren't comfortable, then sell it to trusted seller or a local jewelry store. You will get less money, but minimal risk.

Hate to say it but deals often go sideways...sounds like the OP/seller is just not comfortable so refunds are in order and move on...

No reason to risk shipping a Rolex to the US. Refund the money, live and learn.

send the watch or send him the money back, pretty poor business taking a mans money and then not shipping the watch. This should've been done before a cent was received. The buyer should be making a posting here asking why the hell his watch isn't shipped, not vice versa. not trying to sound harsh, but you need to do your due diligence first as this is a ridiculous way of handling business.

I understand PP provides a service and needs to be paid. Everybody likes to save a little. Thats why we have sellers on here trying to help people save. I was just helping the seller and taking the risk in sending the money as a gift. Thats the risk i took.

The problem i have is the seller is thinking that i am out to scam him when i'm the one who took more risk by sending him the money as a gift. Once that money is sent as a gift you can kiss it goodbye.

I have spoken with the seller and he is currently in the US as he travels for work and is shipping the watch out today. I will update once i have a tracking number.

Exactly! This is great way to end up in the Watchout section. Live and learn...Bad idea!

PS OP just google PayPal gift sellers being scammed and you will regret your decision.

If you still want to go ahead you could refund the Gift portion and make it all via normal PP payment. This will cost you the fees of course but will give you, the seller, more protection. I've go to say though that the buyer here seems very straight up.

I have given the seller many different options on how handle the situation. He has ask to send another payment via normal PP payment. I said sure. Once i get a refund for the gift and everything clear. The problem is it will take time to refund and wait for everything to clear. He already has the money. I don't mind if he wants to refund everything and start over. But i would probably just decline the purchase and buy from a AD. Im just waiting for a email with a tracking number...
