What's Your Favorite Complication and Why?

Aside from basic time telling (including a second hand), complications can add allot of enjoyment and practicality to watch ownership.

What is your favorite complication that you OWN and why?

I really love the Perpetual calendar, although I only have an Annual on my wrist, I love having the right day and month for quick reference, I use it all the time, without fear that I forgot to change the date at the end of the month.

I love Minute repeaters and Tourbillons, but I haven't been able to afford the right one yet. I love the look of Chronographs, but I never used the feature, so I ended up selling mine off.

Split Seconds. So I can time how quickly (me) or slowly (my wife) takes to get ready to go out. That and the complexity and detail that goes into making one.

Well I only have 1 high end watch, Daytona, so my only option given your rules is the chronograph.

I am a sucker for a watch with a moonphase though.

I like to go back to my ABC's, Altimeter, Barometer, Compass. I live on the coast so it is also nice to have the temperature and sunrise/sunset. So, if I am going to be hiking or at the beach, I usually have on my Casio Rangeman. It is not high end, it is high tech.

Complications in general, bore me, bar a large display moonphase.
By that I mean, as much as a tourbillon is intriguing from an engineering point of view, it serves no real purpose on a wristwatch.
Similarly a sonnerie – and as much as I absolutely love the Credor's purity of sound, I'd never invest that much into a watch, ever, just for something that goes "ding, ding ting, and tong".
Much like a first automatic chronograph, the initial novelty wears off after the first few plays with it – after that, it becomes pretty redundant.

So for me, something like the moonphase design employed in the likes of Perrelet, Martin Braun Selene, Arnold & Son, and Schaumberg (Lindburgh & Benson), would be the only version I'd consider.

If we consider retrograde displays and jumping hours, then yes – those are something else I'd be interested in.
And as for PCs, there's only one that does it for me – Glashutte Original's, and I can live with the small moonphase display offered.

I like the chronographs I have and won't be getting rid of them but never use the feature. My first real watch was a rootbeer, and I probably set the 24hr hand 5 times and never used it during 30 years. I appreciate all the effort that goes into creating any complication, though.

None of the complications rivals the usefulness of a watch that is robust and has good WR (100m+), in my experience.

I said the moon phase but didn't think of the date, I had a AC on my 5726 but most of the time I couldn't read the day and month windows, and in fact I usually know the day and month, not always the date though...

Indeed.

It's a Seagull 1963 reissue Republic of China airforce watch, originally used by MiG pilots. The movement is based on the Venus 175, Seagull bought those blueprints and machines somewhere in the 1950s. Just a fun watch.

Well I own AC, PR, Moon phase, 24hr display, will sound stupid but of these the moon phase, if of all that exist a minute repeater, had in the recent past chrono and GMT but don't care much for them, so my 2 favorite are the same kind, in complication, price, and all, the MR and MP

I like the annual calendar. It's my daily wear, including this past Saturday when I wore it to a garden party.

For me the real useful complication is the possibility to wear the watch everyday without to much worrying about it.

The one I love most is the tourbillon, so fascinating.

my favorite and most often used is the timing bezel in my sub,
you all decide if it a true complication...

as an extension, a Chrono is my first choice (up to 30/60 minutes is useful for me)

One complication that is missing is the Power Reserve Indicator. I actually believe this is one of the most useful complications. I love knowing how much power is left regardless if it is a manual or automatic. I do not like when the indicator takes up the whole dial --- i like it to be there but not the focus on the dial.I even like when on the back side of the watch. My second most favorite is the chrono. I am not sure why but I like the idea of being able to time various events.. Next would be GMT… I travel often and that can be very helpful especially when going overseas.

I wanted to add that a PR indicator is the one complication you cannot get off a smart phone. I cannot use the phone to see how much power left in my watch

My phone runs out of power long before my watch.
