See those steering wheels inside the watch
Considering the interest shown by the 69 odd thousands of hits on the thread 'Let's see those steering wheels', is it not time for Rolex to offer the alternative of a crystal case back and the rotor to be offered in the form of matching the steering wheel of a BMW or other car that members are currently driving?
Of course, I have got the idea after seeing the TV programme about the construction of the 6 'missing' lightweight e type Jaguars and the Bremont watch included for each the new owners of the cars costing £1m. The fantastic black dial of the Bremont watch is made to represent the RPM gauge found in the dashboard of the e type (with numerals 5/6 and 7 missing to give the authentic RPM gauge image), the winder is patterned to represent the 1960's tyres. The rotor is a miniature of the aluminium steering wheel, which clearly acts to wind the watch because the 3 'spokes' are to one side. |

I agree that Rolex had put out some gimmicks.
One might argue the new YM is "gimmicky". And while I like pretty much all of the line currently, and I'm more of a car guy than a watch guy, I too would not like to see this idea bear fruit.

This is not the place to discuss marketing campaigns, brand managements or promotional tie-ins. The members here like Rolex for what it is, a solid, reliable, often beautiful timepiece. I'm of the same mind, not really any more inclined to acquire one simply because an all time tennis great wears one, or an all time golf great strolls through a museum of historical matches, and certainly not because some Perkins Pancake House waitress happens to be attracted to some former golf great who wears a shiny DayDate II.

Those who think Rolex is above cheap advertising may not recall the version with the Domino's logo on the face...

That's not advertising or marketing, though. It's issued to Domino's managers as a sales reward. (There's an old thread on here by one who had gotten a few, I think.) You can also find JLC Atmos clocks issued as retirement awards (and marked as such), etc.

You guys don't get it, I posted the thread because of what I see as the over done interest by Forum members on the thread 'let's see those steering wheels', the hits rising daily and clearly ever more of interest. I do not want such a watch.

Really annoying that many in the watch forums are offended by cars and think they are frivolous and many in the car forums are offended by watches and think they are frivolous. In my crazy world all these are money into the fire for the sake of grins while we are alive. I must be missing something here... |

Surely, the idea of the forum is to bring something of interest to members?
Have you googled the Bremont watch that is presented to the owners of the 'new' lightweight Jaguar e type? The dial made to represent the RPM gauge seems to me to be quite a good idea! |

I looked at the Bremont watch that "matches" the e-type and the first thing I pictured was a Rolex with a display back and a Toyota logo inside I don't own a Toymota and don't want to "dis" them, but the combination does not bear thinking about.

Not for a yachtsman, for a yachtmaster... big difference. Typically the yachtmaster gets paid to race the yacht. So yes, a tool for the yachtmaster to help win that weekend's race to gain bragging rights for the yacht's owner and to allow himself to remain gainfully employed.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yachtmaster A Yachtmaster qualification is a certificate of competence of the ability to handle either a sailing boat or motor boat (as endorsed) in certain prescribed conditions. Three different titles are specified; Yachtmaster Coastal (previously - and in some countries still - called Coastal Skipper), Yachtmaster Offshore, and Yachtmaster Ocean which specify the level of competence required and the area of operation certified.[1] Certification may be sought for commercial recognition or as a confirmation of attainment of skills. The original training scheme and certification was established and is maintained by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) in the UK[2] and training to this scheme is carried out in many countries. Other countries such as Australia, have modified the scheme in partnership with the RYA so that it can be locally administered and operated by Yachting Australia.[3] Reminds me of working with Manhattan ad agencies ... content so clever not even the consumer is skilled enough to understand the message. |

I too missed the OP's intent, but as a car guy and a watch guy, the two compliment each other but don't really go together, if you know what I mean. I never got the appeal of a clear caseback. When will I see the little wheels spinning around? Only when I take off the watch, and then only if I bother to look.
As for the huge number of hits on that other thread, I don't get that either. Maybe people are clicking just to count up the Bimmers (my guess at the most common vehicle brand there). And yes, I own a Bimmer.
