16800 second hand length?

Hello!

I am little confused about Submariner 16800 second hand lengths. How many different lengths are there?

Lume spot is not even near the square index.

Also the total length varies, some have second hand as long as a minute hand and some have little bit longer second hand (hand reach the minute markers).

I think it's the angle of the picture that is causing the confusion.

This is just not inherent to the Submariner 16800 but other models as well. I have owned many GMTs and Submariners and have observed this as well. You have two varieties, one where the tritium circle is closer to the center of the hand and the other variety where the tritium circle is closer to the outer end of the hand. The most common variety is the seconds hand where the tritium is closer to the center of the hand.

I have no answer as to why the tritium was placed in two different locations on the sweep second hand, but one theory was that it was placed further back from the end of the hand so it wouldn't obscure the date as the hand rotated around the dial. Personally, I believe that it was related to who manufactured the hands for Rolex.

Some "how to spot a replica Rolex"-guides tell that a short second hand is one mark of replica, apparently this is not right?

The guide also advises that "The illuminated circle on the second hand should hit the top of the 12 o'clock triangle exactly". So if the matte dial 16800 has a larger triangle than glossy it would be natural that the second hand is also shorter?
