Looking to do a good deed
My father in law has always been a watch guy, but would never personally pull the trigger on something more than a thousand bucks or so. I currently have a Chronomat evolution and DSSD, both of which, he loves.
Father's Day just past, and it got me thinking.... What is out there that is somewhat affordable used, is a great timepiece, and something he'll love that shares the look of my watches? The answer I think could be a Breitling Steelfish. No? My Local AD just got a blue one in and I am tempted to pull the trigger. It comes with a bracelet which I plan on removing because the weight would be too substantial for him and, plus, he has always been a strap guy. What are your thoughts? I prefer sticking with breitling as it is a brand he will instantly recognize, plus more affordable for me in comparison to rolex, which is his dream watch. Am I considering to right one? |

If he identifies with breitling then by all means go for it! Otherwise I like omega or Tudor.

If it was me, I'd give him the Breitling off my wrist. Unless it was a gift that has sentimental value to you it could be replaced with another used one. He is your father in law. If you're going to give him a used watch this would be much more personal and the gesture would probably mean as much to him as the watch. Now that'll be a good deed.

I had a blue Steelfish, an excellent watch, tremendous value for money so go for it.

If he's a watch guy, as you say, he'll appreciate any good watch you just give him.
Biased opinion, but I'd suggest a Perrelet Seacraft. |

Pelagos or Black Bay Blue. Neither will break the bank and both come with straps.

BBB or Pelagos for a grand? Where the heck do you do your shopping?
Better yet, why not suggest a BLNR – sure it's only a few bucks more! |

Took me a while to figure out what you've written – I wasn't suggesting you give him your Breitling, but rather that he'd likely be grateful for whichever watch you did presented him with.
If he likes Rolex, ignoring the Breitling for the moment, then what about a Ball Marvelight? Tritium tubes, so lume always active....even if it dims by half at the 10 year mark. Just missed out on one at slightly more than budget – http://forums.timezone.com/index.php...=7052946&rid=0 But there are two on eBay, which you could use that one to negotiate on. Slight left field consideration – http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/a.../item/sdgm003/ |

If he likes Rolex then I'd bet he'd like Tudor as well. I'd go with a preowned BBB or Pelagos
