Trading 4 for 1?

Hello friends! I've been contemplating this prospective trade for several months now and it's coming down to the wire -- I need to do it or get off the pot!

Here's the dilemma, I've got a small but modest collection consisting of:

116520 Daytona (White)
216570 Explorer II (Black)
16570 Explorer II (White)

My daily, 1st Rolex, and my son's heirloom, the 16610 Sub, is staying with me.

I am looking to trade the top 3 listed for my drooling grail, a slightly used, 116719BLRO GMT. I'll be adding another $7700 or so on top of the 3 beauties mentioned above (which is basically 4 nice watches.) I have read about 2 for 1 deals and a couple of 3 for 1 deals, but 4 for 1?

I know this is totally subjective, but would you trade what is nearly 4 excellent Rolex pieces for 1 PM GMT? I do enjoy having a GMT when traveling, and I use my sub bezel for timing things several times daily (parking, laundry, etc..) The Explorer II falls short in this regard. The 16570 white dial is stunning, but I often miss having the ability to time items on the fly. Additionally, the Chronograph of the Daytona is a bit cumbersome to me with regards to unscrewing the pushers each time I need to time an action. The 116570 is too large for me at 42mm. It will not be missed.

It seems like I made up my mind, right? I guess I need to hear it from this wise and WIS community. Should I stay or I should I go? ♫♫♪♪♫♫♪

IMHO, it's way way way too much to give up for the return, but, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I'd keep the Daytona and trade the sub. I'm just biased though coz I love the Daytona.

How old is the GMT and what are they asking for it?

Less is more. If you like wg gmt, then go for it. I will try to keep Daytona.

I would just use the 7k to buy a nice 16710 pepsi in mint condition. It's a better looking watch than the BLRO anyway, IMO.

Less watches? Less valuable watches? I'm having a difficult time deciphering this

I agree, the SS Daytona is stunning. I truly love to look at it, and if I do part with it, I will certainly add it the collection again some day.

I've thought about this as a second option. I'd sell the 216570 and just add on top to get a 1675 or 16710. Great advice Adam!

Two explorers ain't gonna do anything much for you so they can go easily. As for the Daytona, if you fell out of love with it vs the 16610, then I guess you have your answer.

Many might make this trade for the WG sub, but not sure if they would do the same for the WG Pepsi considering that it's just the bezel that has the colours with a black dial. Might be a lot to give up for the bezel. But well, if it's the piece that makes you drool, then go for it!

You've made some valid points. My reasoning for the WG Pepsi is that it seems to check off all the boxes for me. GMT, rotating bezel, PM, and the weight and feel that accompanies. I think I need to enjoy a GMT II for a while before I revisit this decision.

Everyone has really helped me rationalize this decision, even if it wasn't what I was leaning towards

Trading 3 watches is generally bad business for you. It's better to sell the watches one by one and go and negociate with cash in your pocket.

This hobby is anything but a logical decision. Go with your gut. If do the trade and have several times such that I don't have many steel watches anymore

Not worth it at all. You could sell them individually and get a lot more for your money

Hmmm, the only problem with my Pepsi 16710 is the twinlock crown.

Just too small.

The triplock is the way.

You sound sold on it. I say yes!
Since you'd still have the 16610, that would do it for me.

As I grow older, I find the idea of reducing my collection very appealing since maintenance costs would be prohibitive in my old age.

So something like the exercise you are considering has crossed my mind many times...

I would do the same thing. Depends on how badly you want the BLRO though.

I get the feeling if you make this trade you'll never looking back. Especially considering you're keeping the 16610 as your daily, I would do it!

Those other watches can all be replaced or better yet added back into the stable down the road if you find yourself missing any of them.

I would do it and no even remotely look back. All of the watches you are prepared to let go can easily be replaced if you ever would want to at a latter time reacquire. It seems like the BLRO ticks all of the right boxes for you so why not.

I love mine. To me it is nicer in person than in the pictures!! Fantastic reference.

Why not? If you aren't happy it's easy enough to buy any of those watches back.

Or you could take the $7700, add a few bucks and buy a BLNR

I would do it if that's the watch you want.
I have a friend who sold 3 and added on top for the SMURF (116619).
He has been over the moon for 6 months, and hasn't looked back since.

Doesn't seem a million miles away from a good deal to me. I think I would do it to be honest. You can definitely survive with a BLRO and your 16610!!!! There is nothing like WG imo!

I would do that trade, only the 7700$ in cash seem too much IMHO. I will try to trim that number below 4-4.5K.
