Legacy Sub vs SubC tied to personality?

Anyone ever thought about that? Could personality type be tied to which generation of Rolex someone is drawn to?

I'm under 40 but I prefer the older generation of Rolex. I wear traditional suits, shine the soles of my shoes and prefer to be an old guy rather than a young hip guy.

What do you all think? Is there a correlation?

Personality is certainly tied to preferences so....I'm over 40 and seem to prefer the exact opposite of you!!

Same here. Over 40 and prefer the newer references. I just like the newer bracelet, clasp and some other various improvements... that's all.

22 years old and prefer older references. Thats why I went with 16610 vs 116610

I'm 35 and brush my AEs daily after every wear. I consider my style to be well fitted conservative. I love the warm plastic dome on a 5513 or Speedmaster Pro.

But I prefer the new Ceramic Rolex's to the 5 digit references.

The "flashiness" is overstated. It's not like a SubC is some gaudy, tacky watch... that would be like saying the older Sub is dull and dingy. Both are extremely nice, but the newer model has an extra bit of spark that speaks to me.

I didn't have any pre-determined bias when I recently tried on my Rolex's for the first time. I put on both the 14060 and 114060 together and felt the newer model was nicer.

The 116610 is everything the 16610 is and more. Better clasp bracelet and bezel insert / bezel construction. People bitch about the wide lugs and crown guards. To each his own.

I'll agree with this. Some like it, others don't. I'm in the first category.

I guess I'm a older guy who likes the older watches. Call me a turn coat. The newer ones feel heavy and awkward to me. On the other hand I really do love my 116300, my 116000, and my THBBR. Frankly it was just the SubC that felt to awkward on my wrist. Maybe if they put it on a diet.

Even though I am old, there are many newer models and upgrades that I prefer over the older. Having said that, I have a 16610LV and I prefer the older because I think it looks more true to the "original sub" look, considering also that the "green sub" was made to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the sub.

I appreciate and own both. To me the 5513 is special because it harkens emotion. The domed acrylic crystal, the light and slimmer case aesthetics, the patina dial and aged hands... All personal preference, but they just aren't making them like they used to.

I like both but prefer newer references for advances in case, band, clasp, bezel and movements. I am the same with vehicles. While they don't have to be new, typically I prefer them 2-4 years old when I get them.

Of course. I'm a lot like you. I'm 33 and a very traditional person, and went looking for a NIB 16610 instead of getting a 116610 from my local AD due to me preferring the older models. Same goes for the DateJust. That said, I much prefer the new EXPII over the 40mm models.

Over 50 and enjoy them all. New technology and design improvements are desirable in everything from cars to computers and watches. Also, nothing like a well running traditional timepiece. Enjoy them all !

I think that's true with any decision you make. The choices you make are driven by your self image which is driven by your personality.
