GMT 24-hr hand

Dear all,

I haven't used and owned a GMT watch. I am curious how you guys set the GMT 24hr hand to which hour when you are not traveling or not using the feature.

Best,
Galen

I use military time all the time, whatever my time zone is. So at 10 pm the GMT hand would be set at 22. Easier that way in my line of work. Makes it easy all the time.

I work abroad so my GMT is actually serving a purpose, in which case it's always set to home time, central, in the US. When I'm home I leave it on home time and just adjust the normal time to local, that's what a GMT is for, I use it like a pilot would.

If I didn't travel as much or work abroad I wouldn't own a GMT I think, no point, in my opinion just having a hand wandering around the dial without any function. While I don't dive, a dive watch serves the same functional purpose as any other watch except that it is more robust and extremely water resistant which I do value as I spend a lot of time in the water and banging around in the woods.

I recomend you just set it to local time, so you get used to reading it in real time. Makes it easier to use when you're travelling and referencing home time with it.

I use the GMT hand for US EST as that is where I am currently based. The hour and minute hands I use for local time, wherever that may be.

I live in Asia so mine is set to UK time. I never travel with mine unless I'm going home so the reference being set to UK suits my needs.

The 24 hour hand is set to GMT/UTC for me. Aviation worldwide uses GMT for everything....position reporting, flight plan filing, notams, weather, ATC slots, etc.

I set GMT (24-hour hand) to the home time and 12-hour hand for the local time; I also rotate the bezel for checking the 3rd time zone (without moving the GMT hand).

I have friends and family living in India, and frequently need to talk with them, so I set my GMT hand to Indian time so I can quickly at a glance tell the time over there. When I'm traveling to a time zone other than India, then I set GMT hand to my home time zone

Mine is set to GMT, mostly because of convention.

Local time for me. When I travel I rotate the bezel to the new time zone I'm in and use the 24 hour hand.

When home, I set it to GMT+1 where we have close friends. When travelling abroad, I set the GMT hand to home. I also have a Ball WorldTime which shows all 24 time zones which is fun when at home but not as flexible when travelling.

The GMT 1 and GMT 2 function differently. The GMT 2 is a better setup for the non-aviation crowd. I have a 16753 so my bezel is rotated to GMT -4 at work (air traffic control) for GMT/Zulu and back to GMT -0 when I get home.

When I owned a GMT2, the 24hr hand was set to GMT with the bezel at GMT -0. It's easier for someone traveling to use a GMT 2. The GMT 1 takes more thinking.
