I don't see much threads on iwc watches except for a few Portuguese and pilots.
They don't seem to be as popular as rolex, ap, pp and panerai.
I own an iwc da Vinci. Is it a keeper? I'm thinking of flipping it for a roo 44mm fc or ss. Any comments?

However, if you gave me the choice I'd absolutely take the ROO. Big iwc fan but not the da Vinci model

I am amazed by IWC's Ingeniur watches and their Big Pilot watch.. very simple, elegant, easy to read. I don't know if they make their own movements nowadays and I know columnists have ripped them, but I like their watches. I saw a Big Pilot watch in person and tried it on, but it was far too big for my wrist. I still loved its legibility.

In pictures I like the newer Da Vinci models, especially the perpetual calendar. The older style ones like the Cartier Pasha just doesn't do it for me.

I agree - I think some IWC watches are absolutely stunning but they certainly don't seem to get any love on here and not too sure why?

The reasons Ive heard quoted on this forum for no IWC love are most often 1. not good on the resale value 2. not in-house movements. Understandable, but after that, I too don't know why IWC isn't more popular. personally, I think Big Pilot and Portuguese are both great watches.

I heard that they more or less overflowed the market some years ago which made the second hand prices tank and they are still trying to recover from that. Maybe there is some truth in that?

I have a 3756 GST Perpetual Calendar that I absolutely love. It's probably my second favorite watch (after my all black Rolex GMT-II). I don't care whether IWC gets any love. I love mine and that's good enough for me.

Just read a review of the latest Pilot Chrono, seems like a really nice watch. I don't usually seek out chronographs, except a Daytona of course, but that Pilot is one impressive piece.

I LOVE IWC watches and actually think they exude a cool-factor second to none.

Every time I'm in Zurich I stop at their boutique on The Bahnhofstrasse.

I've considered flipping my Roxex watches for these....

Owned an Ingeniuer for 3 weeks. Bought it PO and cheap so didn't take a bath on resale. Nice watch to be fair but $ for $ at retail there are IMO better.
All that said its a matter of personal opinion. I know a few friends who can't see past the brand and there are undoubtably some stunners in the stable

I have always liked the IWC brand and have been close to a purchase on several occasions. Every time I get close though, I find another watch which I would prefer more. Maybe one day.

I actually think they do a fair job of making some higher-end in house watches with their in house movement. And some more affordable watches which source ETA.

But, I would agree that a major reason for them not getting alot of love in the watch community is because of their ETA sourced watches. More people seem to focus on that than their higher-end, in-house watches. There also seems to be a misconception, with people that are not as well versed, that they ONLY make ETA sourced watches.

Also, I love their style and craftsmanship (I own a 3714-45), but really, really wish they made smaller watches. It would be nice for them to make more watches that appeal to people who wear/like 38-40mm.

I like the IWC pilot watches quite a bit. The deal breaker for me on the newer ones is the AR coating on the outside of the crystal.

I've read that it scratches quite easily. I have a touch of OCD and that would drive me nuts. Omega got rid of the outside AR coating on its crystals. It would be nice if IWC did as well.

Had an older omega PO and yes the outer AR was a pain in the a** . Scratches easily and leaves unsightly marks. I end up getting the local watch maker to buff put the outer AR, 100% happier

The IWC company website has an official forum. It is very active and u can get a lot of info on the models, history, and much opinion on the brand there.

Nothing wrong with IWC. Their in-house movements are good and designs are solid. Given that you can get higher-end models for reasonable prices, I'd say it is a good buy now.
