Was wondering what a excellent condition insert for a period correct say 1978 1680 would cost estimate be.

Assuming you're talking about the insert and not the actual bezel, you're looking at upwards of a $1000 and thermos depending on condition, with original pearl etc.

Insert prices range greatly depending on condition, fading, MK etc.
Long 5 MK2 will run $800-1500 depending on condition, slight cheaper for damaged MK3 will run $600-1000 depending on condition, kissing and ghost will run higher, damaged will run lower. Service and Mid font inserts will run $150-300
