OLD GMT with New movement question

Hello, Wouldn't Rolex have documented serial numbers of GMT ll that contained the new movements?

I would bet Rolex did that. I would also bet that those records are kept close to Rolex.

I'm sure that they do.

I'll bet though, if you had an early 16710, and it needed a new movement, it would be fitted with the 3186 since that is the last movement used in it.

Similar to getting a gold surround dial in some of the earlier models, since later models are fitted that way.

Hey Tools

I disagree. If you need entire new movement or a few parts, Rolex would repair with the same movement. Are you saying they have no 3185 parts around?

Yes, I guess that's what I'm saying..

If they are repairing they will repair a 3185. But since the 3186 is the movement currently being made, at some point there won't be any 3185's lying around, so if it is a complete new movement you need, they will use the latest correct part....a 3186.

I thiink they've already used up the 3185's, that's why 3186's are in late GMT's ane EXP II's..

I'm thinking that they stopped using their supply of 3185 movements for just that reason, future repair and replacement.
