Lightsaber Collectors ?

With the new episode of Star Wars, I was wondering if anyone here is a collector of lightsabers. My son who is soon to be 5 years old is obsessed with Star Wars and let me tell you that I share this passion so Santa Claus will bring him 7 lightsabers (so far). I've been learning about the different levels of lightsabers, Force FX, Ultimate FX, the ones they sell @ Disney and the other ones. His birthday party will be Star Wars-themed.

So... anyone here collecting lightsabers besides watches?

Cool!

I do not collect lightsabers but I collect Lego star wars sets, nothing serious though.

Yup, Lego is great stuff but some bigger sets can get pretty pricey.

Those are nice ones. My boys have about 8 of the cheaper versions but they're still non folding with an led light strip up the saber. They look awesome at night, almost caused a few people to crash from them stopping in the middle of the street watching my boys playing.

My boy using a "loaner saber"

I don't collect them but had a lightsaber duel with my granddaughter Thanksgiving weekend. She beat me to a pulp. It was worth the occasional painful hit to watch her laughing crazily as we dueled.

That was at Disneyland, they have a Jedi training academy there every 90 minutes or so. They all get to fight Darth Vader or Darth Maul.

Oh I think I missed, when I took my son this summer it was so crowded but we could go to the "Tour" where C3PO drives the ship. That was so much fun!

My nineteen year old son has quite a collection of light sabers that he started when he was maybe four or five? One in particular is REALLY nice, made of metal, makes really cool sounds when you swing it or strike something!

I can still remember kids having them in 1978, I am sure those early ones would be worth serious coin. I was lucky enough to live in a privileged area and had some friends parents who were well off. I can still remember the first time I watched Star Wars was in a mates home in 1978 on a HOME VIDEO, I am thinking it must have been SECAM at the time. My family was an early innovator when we got our first BETA system in 1983! Which was still early in Australia so to watch Star Wars in 1978 in a house that was sheer decadence!!!!!

I took my kids to DragonCon last year in Atlanta, GA. There was a stall set up where you could have a customized lightsaber built. I think this was the vendors website https://www.ultrasabers.com. I never knew they could be so expensive!!...But I guess that's what most people think about watches..

Now if a beam of light came out, with the cutting ability to pierce through any material then I could see spending $479. But short of being able to cut a car in half with a single blow I will pass.

I just re-read your post using the voice of Ron Swanson and it's even better.

100% agree with you. And people actually have to ask why Rolex has nicknames like "Hulk", "Smurf" etc.

That is really cool! I still don't know if I should spend $150+ bucks in the Force FX lightsabers... they are pretty much like watches that you can later sell for much more.

I will ask my parents to bring all my Star Wars Toys from when I was a child. They will come for christmas. I was my son's age when I started liking Star Wars... this episode VII will bring generations together!

I will check it out... I found this website of Makoto's lightsaber that are supposed to be super bright and almost real. Some "Jedi Schools" recommend it.

Buy them on Amazon, I've seen them pretty cheap there compared to buying them at the Disney site. I think they're $169 at Disneyland before I get my 20% off, I'll double check tomorrow if I make it up there like I'm planning.

No lightsabres in my house but I still have a few original 70s figures. I let my 3yo play with them and should have known better - now one is missing his head :-)

I've seen lately on Amazon some price fluctuation for the lightsabers, I mean, it seems like eBay. I bought some at Disneyland for 29.99, in Amazon were 60. For example, the ones that change color from blue to red are now 80+ and going.
