15400ST Daily

Hey All,

I need a bit of help picking out a new watch. I'm looking between a 15400ST in white or black dial vs a SS Daytona for a daily. Now i love the Ap more, but just waned to know how the stainless wears daily. I have a 26320OR on strap and i love it but not sure how it would hold up if i wore it daily.

I wear my silver 15400 on a daily basis and have been since August. No issues whatsoever and enjoying the hell out of it.

Both have steel bezels so will mark up, maybe the Daytona slightly less as it is smaller, but not much in it so go for the AP.

And especially given how u have a gold ap on strap - I'd get the Daytona

If u go for ap... Go for opposite dial color to present for a change I'd say

Daytona but I've everdayed a royal oak 15300 for a year dont recommend it unless you dont care about scratches

Unless you are doing major physical activities both are just fine for daily wear. Just use some wrist presence and you will be good!

I had an AP Diver. Great watch but I lived in constant fear of banging it up. AP and scratches dont go well together. Unless of course you dont care or have an unlimited repair budget.

For a daily beater I would go Daytona

My blue dial 15300 gets worn in normal circumstances 2-3 times a week, sometimes more, and it stands up just fine. Mine is coming up to needing a service and in the last 6 years it's developed a light "patina". Not sure yet whether to have it polished when it goes for service, or to just let it age gracefully.

Wow, I read your other post dated Nov 25 about recently getting a Diver, so it only lasted 3 weeks or so? What did you do with it? What did you get instead? Just curious.

60 days. Flipped for a SSYM2 with a mea culpa posted for venturing back to Rolex. I found the AP a bit much for everyday wear. Was very fearful about slamming that beautifully finished bezel into something. May one day re-visit AP with ceramic bezel. The SSYM2 was the only Rolex I was ready to consider just because its so different and seldom seen.

I've been wearing a Daytona daily - hence my Instagram account name - and I haven't had any issues. A couple nicks, but still going strong after a year. I'm thinking about adding a 15400 soon, after a work milestone is hit. I'd be splitting time between those two if I do it, but I'd be wearing one or the other through everything.

Interesting point. I love my 15400 but I do tend to baby it and keep it buried under my sleeve. I guess in time I sort of learned not to bash it by being a bit more careful. With my Rolex I really didn't bother because it was such a tank. Lately, however, I find myself wearing my JLC MMC quite a bit. Very cool and different watch with an extremely unique complication and also very tough.

I look after my watches and I dinged my AP15400 3 times in 5 months it is gone down never had same issues with any of my Rolex. That said it is a nice watch.

What are you trying to say here? Some punctuation will go a long way. Are you saying your watch stopped working after dinging it a few times?

I think he is saying he found the 15400 prone to scratches and has since flipped it.


I flipped my 15400 because it seemed bulky compared to my newly acquired (at the time) 5711.

Also I thought it looked a little off when I was truly dressed down. (Red wing Boots, jeans, darkgreen button up etc). I think it looks best under a crisp shirt in a business casual dress. But it's merely my thoughts and subject to taste.

Have had both - neither for a daily, IMO. I'd go with something like a Sub or something in AP with a ceramic bezel.

Both really good daily wearer. I would go with the one you like more plan and simple.

Your 26320OR is an amazing watch but would not wear it everyday though. Stick to a SS for an everyday.

I personally between these two would choose the 15400. If rolex comes out with a ceramic SS Daytona then i would pick that one. Especially as a ceramic bezel will be less scratch resistant.

Buy the one you like the most - period.

Any watch can be scratched or dinged. As mentioned above...just exercise wrist presence, and take care of it and you'll be just fine. Enjoying the watch is priority one.

They can all be polished.

Sorry, I probably did this on my phone. What I am saying is that I am a careful owner, all my Rolex/PP etc are in great condition. In the 6 months I had the AP i managed to get 3 scrapes, I put this down to a bezel with its polished nature and sharp edge that cries out for marks, also it is a large watch so even on my 7.25in wrist it overhung a little.

Picture attached was when sold at 6 months old having been worn weekly in a rotation of 6 watches. It had a visible mark at the 7pm position and another near 2 pm and 8pm. The one near 7pm was gently brushing the middle not edge of a flat hollow core door!

I love the brand and will probably get a 39mm or original 36mm vintage one again one day, but I do not believe they are near as impervious to scratches as a Rolex.

Thanks for clearing that up Craig - I like the look of the 15400, but I'm probably better suited with the 15300 based on my smaller wrist. I'm about 6.75", so 41mm is going to be real big on me if it's too big for you.

Bill I am not a fan of big watches and the 15400 was at the edge for me on size. I think the 39mm is a better balanced size. Having worn my 36mm Day Date all week, I really think we can go too big, a wrist shot for reference. Don't want to talk you out of AP as I am sure I will have one again.

Nice shot. I am considering the 15400 or eventually getting a 118238. The Day-Date has had my attention for a long time, and I think it would pair really well with my Daytona. I just don't know how well it would be received at my start-up job.

I also everydayed a 15300 for probably 2 years and it was pretty marked up by the end (to say the least). Scratches are unavoidable and I learnt to live with them...

That said, great watch and highly recommended nonetheless.

So after reading everyone response and trying on the watches i believe i'm ready to go with the Daytona. I personally think the Royal Oak is a better watch and looks MUCH better, but i think for a daily/beater watch it will be hard for me to handle the scratches. I'm super OCD and scratches bother me so the R.O is out.

You absolutely made the right choice. The RO is no watch for the super ocd. You would never enjoy it.

Neither is the Daytona. The PCLs and polished bezel scratch easily and show scratches. Get a ceramic bezeled Sub and call it a day.
