Playing golf with your Rolex?

Got in a quick 18 today with a buddy...the joys of living in the south! Anyway, at the range I removed my Rolex and put it in my bag. I don't do this for fear of damaging the watch, I just don't like having a watch on while playing. My friend asked me if I was scared of hurting the watch and I told him I wasn't. He remarked that he has heard it will damage the watch. I have heard similar tales but never seen nor heard of any hard and fast evidence either way. So what do you guys say? Will it hurt it or not?

I have only had mine for a year but have easily played 50 rounds with it. It still keeps near perfect time so no issues here.

I golf with a Rolex on...Never had an issue.

Someone put in my head when I got my first watch it was bad for the automatic movement to play golf wearing it. Logically I can't believe that's true but I can't get it out of my head, so I won't wear a watch golfing.

Yeah I read this somewhere too. I may be wrong on this (or rather the source) but I think it does make some sense, but depending on the force of the impact.

It's due to the impact from the swing coming in contact with the ball, transferring the energy to the hand and watch, resulting in a shock to the balance spring. This will cause it to be disoriented and affecting the accuracy of the watch. That's why, as an example, Richard Mille created a watch for Rafael Nadal that can absorb the impact while playing tennis and still be as accurate as ever.

But then again many golfers here believe it's OK so maybe there's no major effect after all.

I'm sure it's ok but I still don't play golf with any watch on my wrist, just don't like anything there.

I play about 4 times a week. I have never had a problem with my watches.

I am curious about this issue too. I once golfed with my Explorer2 and it's fine. But the Explorer2 is designed as a sports watch. It is OK with a Daydate40 as well? From what I understand ( and I might be wrong ), all Rolex Oyster range watches have built in anti-shock capability to withstand vibrations.

I believe that Phil's Cellini that he wears while he plays has a hand wind movement.
The other Rolex sponsored golfers have Rolexes with automatic movements that they do not wear while they golf, instead they put their watch on after they finish their round for the press conference.

I only wear my Sub while scuba diving, rock climbing, bowling, playing racquetball, softball and while riding the Harley. I would never chance hurting the Sub during a round of golf and always break out the Patek while at the links!!!

I also break out the PP when I shoot large caliber weapons and when I do yard work 👍

I have hit many golf balls and shoot a lot of rounds with my Rolex on.....never had a problem ....nor have I worried.

This has been covered before. You won't damage your watch golfing with it on. If you prefer to not wear a watch that's fine too.

I have been playing golf with my DJ for over 20 years with no problems. I only stopped 4 years ago when I bought a Garmin GPS watch that determines exact yardages to the green. Best $100 dollar investment in a watch and my golf game.

I have a pouch and keep it in my bag. No so much for fear of issues - I just don't like anything on my wrist or in my pockets when playing - psychological as I hit a great shot once - only ONCE and no watch nothing in pockets.

I had a friend snap the band off his DD. It dropped at his feet thankfully. I don't wear watches or rings just because I don't want any interference.

Never a problem to wear it golfing but I also put mine in my bag because I don't like anything on my wrist or fingers when I golf. Also my caddie's always wearing his.
