Question: Serial Number on the Rehaut - shall it be masked from public eyes?
Seeking views. When taking pictures to share with the public, is there any concern if the picture show full view of the serial number on the rehaut? If yes, why?
Thanks! |

I think Chris is asking can anything be done with the serial number of people without the watch knows it. Reporting it stolen, etc... ?

I understand that you may have some concerns since all your pics will not show any serial number. Is it because of security issue or something else? Can the serial number be misused by others? |

Yeah. I'm trying to understand if there would be any implication showing the serial number openly and whether it can be abused by others in any way. Thanks !

Technically it COULD, but I'm not worried about it. Usually you will have to provide proof of purchase etc to report it stolen. That is exactly why (on car forums) I never understood people blurring out their license plate. Really no reason for it at all. For me to take a stolen vehicle report, I need to know A LOT more than what their license plate number is. Heck, think about the thousands of license plates you see a day...... IN PERSON.

I think some don't show the numbers so it can't be use by those making fake watches.

As long as you can prove ownership it shouldn't be an issue. I guess one reason people hide it is to keep fake manufacturers from potentially using their number. I read an article a long time ago about a guy who had a real Panerai with a serial # known to be used by forgers. He had a tough time while owning it - repeatedly got harassed about having a fake watch.

Shielding the serial is based more on paranoia than real-world activity. On a forum the best reason to hide it is because you will have to spend hours weeding through all the posts telling you about it..
