Italian loafers..which ones and why?
Been thinking of adding a pair of Italian loafers to my collection. I've read lots here about Gucci, Prada, Ferragamo etc. Which are best? Which are glued on vs stitched on soles? Post pics!! Thanks.

I only wear Gucci. They seem to fit me best. I like the loafers with vibram soles but they stopped making them. Anyway, I recommend trying a pair of Gucci.

My nicest pair is a pair of Brunomagli's. I love the leather quality, soles are stitched in. IF money weren't an object I'd have a nice pair of ferragamos. They were right around $1200 when I tried them on. I also tried on a pair of Gucci snakeskin driving shoes, but really wasn't as impressed in person as I was when I first saw them online.

I am a fan of Ferragamo - their leather is better in my opinion. I posted pics in another thread
Edit to answer a question - Leather / stitched soles for dress shoes - I have a pair over 15 years old resoled twice (cannot resole glued soles) - for drivers / casual / moccasins - glued is fine IMHO. edit again to add - Shoe Trees are your friend, NEVER - EVER - NEVER wear same shoes two days in a row - let them rest - in what - oh yeah SHOE TREES. |

I have 2 pairs of ferragamos and love them. Actually sprinted some serious distances through airports wearing them with no socks. I'm impressed how they've held up.

Mine are not Italian, Allen Edmonds. Not too shabby. I've been thinking of adding a pair of tods or farragamos.

I've been wearing Allen Edmonds for years and have a dozen or so pairs. Was looking to add some Italian loafers or drivers for wearing with jeans and casual wear. Anyone have AE Italian loafers?

Of the three brands you listed, I would choose Farragamo. They have always been shoemakers while the others started out in bags and luggage.
To answer your other question about glued or stitched soles - if they have a man made sole, they are almost certainly glued on. |

Italian loafers..which ones and why?
I have several pairs of Salvatore Ferragamo and I do recommend it.They are super nice looking shoes, they seem to last long but they are not that comfortable. My Johnston and Murphy are much more comfortable.

With a lot of the Italian shoe companies, I think you're paying for the name more than anything else. I'm not sure about Gucci and Prada, but I know Ferragamo's top of the line shoes are made very well. Of course, the price is in the stratosphere.
I'd stick with real shoe makers. AE, Alden, Edward Green, C&J, Carmina, etc... |

I have 2 pairs of drivers - neither from an Italian brand but both were made in italy
Bought a pair of C&J drivers in summer 2014.. cost about 300 usd at their nyc store. not typical C&J quality but good for the price point Received an LV gift card for christmas and used it recently on a pair of drivers called Racetrack Moccasins. the quality is surprisingly very good. I like them a lot. |

I just bought a pair of Monte Rosso loafers with their man-made sole for wet weather wear. They are very comfortable day one. I have 2 pair of Allen Edmonds inbound.

When you talk about Gucci and Ferragamo and Tods, it really depends on which shoe last (shape) fits you best.

Italian loafers..which ones and why?
Bought ferragamo parigi's first, then got my first pair of Gucci loafers, that turned into getting Gucci drivers. I now have three pairs of Gucci drivers. Obviously I prefer Gucci, just seem to fit my foot better.
Below is a picture of the ferragamo's and two of the guccis I have another pair that I leave in my club locker, will take a pic when I go to gym soon. A couple of the loafers, non drivers. I don't dress up too often so drivers are my go to. Here are other Gucci drivers:
