SEIKO fever!
Can't get enough SEIKO at the moment. Have been enjoying surfing, snorkelling and other action adventure like eating plenty of Ahi on Maui recently with the Seiko SBDX014 Marinemaster 'Emperor Tuna'. The rose gold like finishes on the bezel and elsewhere are titanium, as is the main case. It is the famous Seiko one piece main case that is 'impervious' to Helium. The protective shroud or outer case is Zirconia Ceramic and bring the watch to a 48mm diameter. Fantastic silicone accordion strap with titanium buckle and keeper, titanium screw down crown at 4 o'clock. As usual incredible Seiko Lumibrite markings that simply glow like no other. The movement is the Automatic 8L35 which is essentially an undecorated Grand Seiko movement and is as you would expect very accurate. These watches are rated to 1000m but have been tested successfully to 4000m! This is another Seiko 50th anniversary diver edition and gives more than a respectful nod to the original 'Golden Tuna' from 1978 which was in fact another little known Bond watch...name the movie and the scene in which it appears! The finish is superb and overall it's a big, bold but somehow rather elegant watch, or perhaps my aesthetic values have gone a bit haywire! The retail is USD$3,300 but as with most Seiko's you can do quite a bit better. Good value? I think so.

Very nice Tuna, mate! Hard to beat the value of Seiko.
I've taken the long way 'round the barn and modded a couple SKX divers into Tunas. dP

Wait, what? You can put an SKX case into the 'tuna shroud'? I need to get me a 009 and one of those shrouds asap then.

I considered getting one of the turtle reissues, but they're still a bit expensive IMO.
For a similar price I opted for this one (just arrived), and I have to say that the case finishing quality is Scary !!! At this price point it must be the bargain of the century. |

Hi
I was just wondering what you thought of the "Turtle" reissue Seiko? I have the 6309 all original (vintage) but I'm also looking for something I can take to the water without worry. Kind regards Jon

An ebay find. It's a little janky - bracelet wise, but in terms of looks I would say it is a rolex submariner's equal.

Love the brand. It's got such a distinctive design language, such that you instantly know that a watch is a Seiko.

Just bought this Seiko SARX017. 40mm 23 jewel automatic with seiko a 6R15 movement with hacking feature. A leather strap with a deployant clasp. Sapphire crystal with a exhibition case back. The dial reminds me of a Omega Aqua Terra. Imported from Japan through Amazon.
