Thanks Chris.

The situation is the same here in the States. There is actually only one Sinn dealer here, so it makes it pretty difficult if you like to try before you buy.

That sure looks like it was built well. It is sure a rugged watch. Congratulations and wear it in good health.

That U1 is awesome. Love the pics, love the watch even more so after reading this blurb from a UK sales site....

Long awaited and much anticipated latest model from one of Germany’s most successful watchmakers, Sinn Uhren. Sinn are well renowned and highly regarded in watch manufacturing as they are innovators and producers of mainly instrument, military and aviation watches. They are know for investing large amounts of money in research and development and have some world leading technical innovations that make their watches highly desirable and collectible. Moreover, they are fanatical about engineering standards , and the Sinn watches are over engineered, without being over designed – and at a price point that does not edge them away from the enthusiasts. The U1 and U2 watches are indeed unique and one of a kind. They keep in line with Sinn’s philosophy of manufacturing watches that are built to the highest standards, and employ the latest in technical developments. The U1 and U2 are designed with specific diving use and totally impervious to water penetration. The U1 and U2 cases are made from stainless steel that used in the construction of the outer hull of submarines. The steel was by procured by Sinn from a steel supplier to Emden GmbH, one of Germany’s North Sea shipbuilding yards who construct submarines from the very same steel. This submarine steel is not only extraordinarily sea water resistant (PRE value up to 38), it possesses also the highest anti magnetic quality. Another main advantage of this steel that Sinn’s Tegiment technology could also be applied where the submarine steel can be hardened on up to 1500 Vickers. Compared to regular 316 L stainless steel which is hardened to approximately 220 Vickers. The Uni directional ratchet operated rotating bezel is also milled from this submarine steel. The indices are machined directly into the bezel without the use of bezel inserts, which can corrode or come loose at deep depths. The watch has the bezel hardened to 1,500 Vickers by the use of Sinn’s tegimented treatment in the Sinn laboratory. Has a sapphire crystal with anti reflective coating, screw down crown with three gaskets and is water resistant to 1000 metres to DIN 8306 specification. The watch has an ETA 2824-2 automatic movement, operating at 28,800 beats per hour, shockproof according to DIN 8308 specification and anti magnetic according to DIN 8309 specification. It operates in temperatures between -45° Celsius to +80° Celsius due to the special lubricants in the movement applied in the Sinn laboratory. Super Luminova luminous broad hands and dial markings for maximum legibility. Functional and utility looking red and white hands and sweep second hand. Comes on India “vanilla smelling” rubber strap with double push button deployant buckle and fliplock safety clasp. Outstanding watch. Width is 44mm, lug to lug is 50 mm, Thickness is 15mm.

I wanty

Thanks Jim. :)

The U1 is definitely one tough watch. Also it's one of the most comfortable large (44mm) watches I've ever worn...

This is one of my favorite watches (on the internet) as I have never seen one. I am pretty sure I am going to get a speedmaster and also a dive watch. My only concern about this watch is the height. I want to use it kayaking and backpacking and I want it to fit under gloves and sleeves, also I do not want it knocking on everything in sight.

How do you feel about the height?

I love the height of the watch. It has a substantial presence on the wrist, but I've never found it to get in the way. Then again, I'm used to wearing larger watches (IWC Big Pilot, Panerais, etc.).

One good thing is the U1 takes knocks really well. The sub steel is tough as nails and mine still looks as good as the day I purchased it.

Lastly, the U1 is probably one of the most comfortable 44mm+ watches I've worn. I don't think you would be disappointed.

That is a true tool watch. I love the AR coating. Looks like there is no crystal.
