Going To South Africa And Zimbabwe( Victoria Falls)

I shall be going to South Africa for mostly Safari tours and city tours of Cape Town and Johannesburg. Then, after that, shall be going to Zimbabwe or Zambia to see the Victoria Falls. Anyway, would it be safe to wear my Rolex watch in these places. For your information, my Rolex watch shall always be staying on my wrist.
Thanks.

It is safe, as long as you use common sense - don't go into questionable areas on your own, don't "advertise" your Rolex etc. I won't wear a YG or RG watch, but any SS model should be fairly safe. Keep in mind the crime rate in these countries are quite high.

WG and Plat should also be ok as they 'look' like stainless I am assuming? Atleast this is what I tell myself.

I almost got robbed off my DJ in Vic Falls. Perhaps walking back to my hostel completely sh*tfaced at 4AM wasn't the smartest thing in the world, I talked my way out of the situation.
(and another story, I'm now married to the girl I met that night)

Highly recommend spending more time in Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, especially the wineries around it. Joburg is simply meh, I wouldn't even bother going.

WG and Platinum should also fly under the radar, as long it it's not diamond dial or bezel models.

Careful, my wife's from Joburg.

For what it's worth I wore my Seiko in South Africa, no sense taking chances when you don't know the lay of the land.

My parents did a very similar trip recently and were advised by the travel group not to wear any expensive (or fake) jewelry or watches. YMMV

I'd go with a beater and lock the Rolex up at home. Not worth the risk.

Amazing Time in SA

Enjoy Capetown and the safari! We went there for our honeymoon and had an amazing time. Parts of Capetown are no-go after dark but I think if you're aware of your surrounding / street life you should be fine.

Capetown is also where I got my first and only Rolex - DJ II: smooth bezel / blue stick dial.
