Nomos Weltzeit - any opinions?
Nomos seems to be a darling of the watch world for the last few years. I've always liked the look for the Weltzeit, their GMT/(semi) worldtimer. It has a generally good look, and a useful complication, and the newer blue dial looks great.
I have never actually held any Nomos watch in my hands though, and am looking for opinions from any that have. They have a pretty limited dealer network, I've seen a few other models at the big Tourneau at Caesars in Vegas, but they didn't have this model in stock. Hopefully, I'll be on SF in a few months and might be able to stop in at the two retailers there. Anybody out there actually own one of these? I see them pop up in the for sale section occasionally, but so far never from any of the big-name trusted sellers. |

I own one and quite like it. I particularly like the lugs on the zurich model rather than the thin angular lugs on the other models. Nicely constructed, pleasing dial, great size and fit, and a good value. Haven't seen the blue model though, but I hears it's a beauty.

Yep. Have two and love them. Best value in the watch world in my opinion. And their service is second to none.
I am a guy that likes a date on a dress watch. As I sign and date a lot of documents at work I always look at my watch to check the date. So my first was an Orion datum weib And then I waited for over a year for this one. They are almost impossible to come by at an AD. If you see it, buy it. Metro power reserve. I have tried on and worn both of their GMT's of which you speak. Great watch and I like the white dial better. It is just easier for me to read. Good luck on your search. I've always loved the look of the blue Zurich Weltzeit, but the price is kind of crazy for this (still) new brand.

The best model, especially in the blue, that they make – the rest of the models, I can easily not give a second’s thought about.

I find these to be very appealing. I purchased their Ahoi but the position of the lugs made it too big for my small wrist and I eventually sold it. Their pieces-- great bang for the buck though

Independent Glashutte watchmaker, in-house movement around $4,000 US. Seems like a pretty good value. Very happy with my Orion. My 18 year old has a Club. When his hipster friends ask him about it he tells them, " It's a NOMOS, it's made by a bunch of hot German chicks in some little village in Germany".

Is the Weltzeit a "true" GMT, or does it only display one time zone at a time?

It’s not a dual timezone watch, but a GMT of sort.
Each city on the outer half of the dial are separated by 2 hours difference, as are those on the inner, but the difference between outer and inner is 1 hour. So instead of NY being opposite 7 on the dial when London is set at 12, you have to count the difference and mentally work out the exact time. |

Huh? I thought the home time was on the small subdial at 3:00, and the pusher at 2:00 was used to rotate the city dial along with the hands to the second time?

You’re right – memory not serving me well.
It’s a dual time after all. |
