Question.

Let's take two members of this forum.
One that has been here for over 3 years, almost since the beginning of the forum and member 2, that is much, much newer.

Member one posts a picture of a girl in the Jokes forum. The forum is labeled Might Not Be Work Safe.
The picture is posted in a forum labeled not safe for work, in a thread that in it's title says "Not Safe For Work".
So far there were TWO warnings that you might want to NOT click on that thread if you are easily offended.
With that being said, the girl that I posted was a reply to a remote control joke and it contained no nudity whatsoever. NONE. I'd just about show that to my Mother.

Earlier today Member 2 posts in the Open Forum and the posting is FULL of nearly naked women, up close of a girl's arse, breasts with a sticker over the nipples... etc.

My post in a forum labeled Not Safe For Work, in a thread labeled Not Safe For Work, got edited and I was told out in the open, not via PM, that I am breaking forum rules.

I have been here for a long long time, and I have never had a run in with the mods, and I will not start now. This is not my intent.

HOWEVER. Since my post got edited, and the reason for the edit was out in the open, I will ask my question out in the open.

Why is it not OK for me to post a pic of a girl that shows no private parts whatsoever (and a hot girl if I might say so ) in a forum labeled Not Safe For Work and in a thread labeled Not Safe For Work but it's OK for other members to post pictures of nearly naked women and close up of their arse, or pics of an old wrinkled dude wearing a speedo? In the Open Forum? Which is NOT labeled NSFW?
Why is it ok for other members to talk about sex with sheep out in the open forum but I got my post edited?

I am not trying to start a fire or troubles, but I am not a Yes man and I never will be. I follow the rules and I take criticism. But I also require an explanation for everything that I do and for everything that is being done to me.

The law should be "enforced" evenly throughout this board. And that's all I am going to say.

LOL-X says in his remarks that he got a complaint.

(Complaining about that? I can't imagine.)

Seeing as how I read this site in front of my son, I'm satisfied with clicking the links.

Hmm, I do concur that the other post should have a disclaimer. I wouldn't want to get sacked or something when I'm reading open forums at work.

Hey Chip

I totally see your point, and I'm sure some action will be taken to the other guy's thread.

I'm sorry they edited your post, that's not nice!

TR, the "NSFW" disclaimer tells people that it might be better to not open the thread at work. A lot of workplaces can see what their workers are looking at, and if it can be construed as inappropriate, the employee might get in trouble, and potentially even fired.
Also, some people might be uncomfortable having to explain what they're doing if a coworker or boss comes along!

"Enforcement" is quite often based on a complaint.

One of the security guards at the building where I live told me that he does not ring someone's doorbell to tell the resident that the music is too loud unless another resident has called in a complaint to the office.

It appears to me that Steve is trying to keep everyone happy. Obviously, you are not happy. Sorry about that. I didn't interpret Steve's post as saying that you broke a rule. Personally, I don't see any big deal about clicking on a link to see a photo. Nice photos, by the way.

If you think that other postings are improper, click on the triangle. That's why it is there.

Clicking on a link is a much better option in my house, when I have two little girls looking over my shoulder most of the time!

I think Steve gave a clear explanation of his reasons.
I had a similar run in with a mod a few weeks ago over a word I used, I took it on the chin and moved on.
Different posts will attract different complaints, don't take it personally the mods are trying their best, I am sure the other post if noticed would get treated within the rules.

Running a forum is not easy, as you know Chip and I do agree that the same standards should apply to everyone. I just made a hasty decision elsewhere and now deeply regret it. It's quite possible Steve has done the same, who knows? Bottom line, I think a mistake has been made here and lets face it we all make mistakes. In the long run I'm sure we can put this behind us and get on with the fun.

Wise words, guys - that just about sums it up.

I'm not mad, nor do I plan to leave this forum.
There are a few people here that I count as friends and I would just about trust with my life. (mailman and Mike to name a few)

As somebody that has ran a forum for over 3 years, I know a bit about what is right as wrong. I run a 100.000.000 million/year operation for AT&T and I have 200 people reporting to me. One thing that I have learned long time ago is that the rules have to apply to everyone. Not just one person.

Am I a model member? Probably not. But I have been here for a long time and I feel that I have been "screwed" while new members get to do whatever they want.

That's it.

And no... I'm not going to threaten to leave or anything like that.
I'm simply the kind of guy that expects to see some skin if he turns the channel to Cinemax at midnight, (an analogy to my post) and expects to see Lifetime Television when he clicks on the Open Forum.
Somehow those two got reversed.

It's already behind me.

I just want the "law" to apply to everyone.
If I would click on the Bikes and Sturges thread at work and some ladies would happen to see that... I would be in the HR's office in a heart beat.
That's all.

Well... this is how I look at this.
1. "Enforcement" is quite often based on a complaint.
The person that complained was warned TWICE that it might not be work friendly! And like you said... damn... those were nice pics LOL.

2. If you think that other postings are improper, click on the triangle.
I am not clicking on any triangle. I am mature enough to click away from a thread I do not care for. Just like I am not going to cancel my internet provider cause they give access to porn. What you do and what you look at is a personal choice. Don't like it... click somewhere else.

I do agree with you though... enforcement is based on a complaint.

I agree 100% Chip, there should be a warning on that thread. Especially as I work in a very sensitive country and could click on that at an Internet Cafe and end up being arrested.
