Bad AD experience.
Today i went into my local AD to check out a watch that i had been doing some research on for a while.( I have been into the same shop previously a month before to also see another watch) As i walked in i was welcomed by the same member off staff who had helped me the month before. He ignored me as i walked around and when i requested help he was quick to ask if i was 'buying today' I politely responded no and asked if i could view a watch. which he then responded with "well this is not a watch gallery and because your not buying you cannot view the watch" he then rudely added that i cannot come in here "3-4 times a day to see a watch" which i think is just plain exaggeration as i had only came once the month before.
Has anyone had a similar experience? |

LOL Joker. Take your business elsewhere, this AD does not deserve your money.

I always take a long time considering large purchases - especially with watches - and often revisit the store time and time again to look, try on, drool... Never had anyone say anything like that to me. I'm sure some have wanted to, but they're working in sales and had the sense to remember that.
In my opinion they don't deserve your business, and when you buy your Rolex, return to the store and thank the salesperson for allowing you to try it on that one time... |

The guy is an idiot. Maybe a better response to the question would have been, "Perhaps, if you learn some manners, and sales and customer service skills!"

No can't say I have. I wouldn't bother going back there again or better yet go there all the time and bug the crap out of him! LOL

Salespeople are often deluded in thinking they can just make a sale with minimal effort, i would have reminded him that my purchase depends on 1: The watch being to my liking, and 2: how they handle me as a customer. As a consumer how can i make an informed purchase without viewing the product first. Customer service for me is a big part of the experience and if he expects everyone to walk in and buy without seeing the watch then maybe he needs to find himself a different job. I understand his frustration knowing he won't be making a sale today, but they have now lost a potential customer for ever.

20 years ago I had bought my fiance the President w aftermarket diamond and sapphire bezel.
Walked into Mayors in the mall (closest place) to get it sized. The female sales associate asked first if I had bought it there and I said yes and then she told me no I didn't buy it there because this is an aftermarket bezel and they don't sell aftermarket bezels. With my fiance standing on my elbow I looked at her and said wow thanks for totally ruining that one. And as you can tell it's a brand new watch that cost a lot of money so obviously I'm a big jewelry buyer. I wonder if I'll ever come in here and buy anything from you ever? I don't remember if the manager overheard and rushed in and resolved it because what I was saying was true or if I just turned and walked out in a huff. Had a lot of fun in college. |

It has happened before where sales people are rude and I ask to speak to the manager on the spot. Most times that changes the situation but on occasion that does not help. I had the chance to speak to the owner of a AD, they have 16 stores. He told me how the customer was #1 and service was how they made a difference. I listened to his speech and respectfully disagreed. Pointing to several different incidents and told him I would never buy from them again nor could I recommend them. In the end I do not believe he was used to someone speaking to him in a firm but calm tone with specifics to back it up. I don't go out of my way to down the business but if someone asks my opinion I share it with them. Don't walk away, that makes it easy for them.

Not sure how easy it is to go elsewhere but that would be the route I'd take. What a D......bag.

No experience to the extent you note; however, I my observation is that some ADs are simply more friendly, and willing to assist the customer than others.

It's always disappointing to hear stories like that. I was luck enough to have quite the opposite experience this weekend in the Omega boutique. I nipped in there on the way to a friend's stag party to get the bracelet checked as it was looking a bit loose. The assistant saw the spring-bar was slightly bent and worn before whisking it away to the watchmaker for replacement.
While they were doing this, I asked if they would mind me trying on a Speedmaster (while making it clear there was no chance of my buying one that day). They were more than happy for me to do this and even brought me a coffee while I was trying it on. The assistant I was speaking to was a real WIS and we had a fascinating conversation about watches in general while the work was being done. Throughout the whole experience, I was made to feel special and valued. I'm totally impressed and will be recommending that particular boutique to friends in future. |

Wow! That is awful customer service. Not sure how I would have responded to this.
Time to look for a new AD. You may want to write a formal letter to the manager. It may be that the store is managed like this, but more likely management is unaware of this type of behavior...or at least I hope that is the case.

That's too bad for the AD, before I bought my Submariner I had gone to the store at least 3-4 times to look at the watch I was considering, each time the staff was more than willing to get the watch out and humor me. I ended up purchasing that watch, returned several years later for a 1 1/2 carat engagement ring, as well as wedding bands. I will continue to do business there as long as I'm treated well. Maybe an email to the GM of the store to get this off your chest and then I wouldn't be back.

I agree and here's the other problem. The best business is word of mouth. If you as a salesman want more people to buy from you be customer oriented. Just because someone doesn't seem to have the ability to buy it does not mean they don't.

Maybe he was in a bad mood.
I would have asked for the owner or manager to speak with and presented exactly the way the exchange went with his sales person and asked if that was the policy of the store. Maybe that would have helped his mood. |

Make sure that you go back and show that specific salesperson what you bought...somewhere else.
