Tissot is under the Swatch group and they use the ETA automatic movements. They are fine watches - good value for the money, and I recommend both Tissot and Hamilton for folks who wish to purchase an "entry level" automatic watch.

It's a great watch... except for the non-lume feature

I recently did a little research on this model and the Le Locle Power Reserve (T0064241105300). Some basics:

Le Locle Automatic
ETA 2824-2, Power Reserve= 42hrs, Sapphire crystal front and back, engraved case back, 30M, 316L Stainless Steel, 39mm, MSRP $450

Le Locle Automatic Power Reserve
ETA 2897, Power Reserve complication, Power Reserve= 42hrs, Sapphire crystal front and back, engraved case back, 30M, 316L, 39mm, MSRP $1195

You will find that many other Swiss companies use the same ETA base caliber (ETA 2824 or the ETA 2896/7) in many of their timepieces. The Raymond Weil Tradition has an ETA 2896 and sells for roughly $1400 (retail). Also the Omega Seamaster Professional (non co-axial) also has the ETA 2896 and sells for $2000 (retail). The ETA 2896 is basically an upgraded version of the ETA 2824. I have often heard of the 2824 being referred to as a real workhorse, stable and reliable. You will aslo find many Swiss makes (Panerai, Omega, TAG Heuer, Cartier, Baume & Mercier) use the ETA 2896 in many of their hour, minute, central seconds and date watches, some for as much as $5000 or more.

The materials used(316L Stainless Steel and Sapphire crystal) are used by almost every other Swiss manufacturer in a greater majority of their timepieces.

Tissot, IMHO, is the best value for the buck. Go get it, you will be very happy you did.

For me, I would go to an authorized dealer. When there see if they will cut you a price. Also, you would get the 2 year warranty, and have the peace of mind that it is 100% authentic. Some authorized dealers also extend the warranty at no charge.

Nothing's worse than laying out a few hundred dollars on the internet only to find out that you got a fake (and there are Tissot fakes out there). Or if someone broke theirs and is trying to sell their "problem" to you. Buyer beware.
