Open papers?

I'm a newbie so excuse the ignorance. I'm about to buy a Rolex and I wanted to know what it means when the buyer says, "open papers". I'm thinking it means that the watch hasn't been registered to anyone, correct? If so, does that mean that I will have to register the watch? What's the benefit of "open papers" vs "non" and does it really matter?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is no real benefit to "open papers". It just means that the Dealer who originally sold it did not properly fill them out to the original buyer, or it was originally a Grey Market watch.

A Rolex is not "registered" to any particular person.. Generally the first time Rolex will ever know you have the watch is when you submit it for it's first service. Only the Dealer retains purchase information..

All of my watches I have walked into Rolex Dallas with AD papers and sales receipt.

They "logged" them in to their database for furture reference.
Each Rolex was checked to make sure s/n matched paperwork and ticket.
They then Record S/N, make a copy of sales ticket and Warranty Papers with AD filled in.

All I have to do is call and they already have the numbers if one gets lost or stolen.

I don't have to worry about papers or a serial number, they already have it.

Not everyone would want this of course, but I like it.
