No - it's not an opinion I actually share....
After seeing and touching my first Sub a few weeks ago, I have fallen in love with Rolex's  However, after espousing my love of the watch to some friends - the phrase 'chavvy bling' did crop up... |

rollo, I would respectfully suggest that such a comment is ill informed. I could say a lot more but if you read a few of the posts on this forum, you will have more than enough information to make up your own opinion, and perhaps those less well informed about what Rolex is really about.

Huh? For our international buddies the term 'Chav' is used to designate the British peasant underclass. There is no 'noveau riche' or anything like that. The term mostly describes folk of a material nature. The classic Chav is one who resides in social funded housing and has no real capital or invested wealth. Money (usually from some sort of incapacity benefit) is spent on the acroutments of what these uneducated masses would consider the traditionally wealthy to purchase. Usually this means designer clothing, watches, sunglasses and automobiles. Although Britain strictly conforms to a Class ethos and structure, I personally think that this "Chav" thing seems to be a cultural shift in today's youth. The disillusioned kids have grown in a society in this country where everything is too easy to get for very little work. With the credit crunch turning into a looming recession, it seems many of these "wot ya see iz wot ya gets like innit?" may die out and return to their roots. In the meantime, the true blue bloods and "upper middle" snobs can sleep safely in the beds knowing that "you can't buy class". J |

I live in a mortgaged three bedroom Semi detached home on a former council estate and drive a Ford car. I have two Rolex watches and very little money or wealth. Am I a Chav??????? J |

I could see the fashion watches from department stores being termed "Chav Bling", but I would hardly thing a Rolex would fall in that category....
