AD kinda scolded me!

I called a local AD today to see if they sold leather or croc straps. She asked which watch I was going to use it for. I told her a Submariner. She proceeded to strongly advise me to never alter my Rolex in any way including the bracelet. And that they would not install the strap for me. I told her I just wanted to purchase the straps and install them myself. I currently use mostly Nato and rubber straps anyway. She went on and on about what a mistake I was making.
I then called another branch of the same AD and he said " Sure! Come on in and let me show you a few options. "

The manager of the first ad may be interested to know the sakes tactics of their employees. That's poor salesmanship pure and simple.

I don't think the 1st sales associate was very knowledgeable. I dont think changing a strap is altering your rolex in a sense that your warranty is voided. Simply put your original bracelet back on. Now if you have diamonds set in your oyster or let Bamford get a hold of your watch thats different.
The 2nd sales associate knew exactly what your intentions were and therefore was more helpful.

It may well be poor salesmanship but the salesperson was making a decent effort to protect the image of the brand. I very much doubt if Rolex really want people slapping a croc strap on a Submariner. It is somewhat infadig.

Yeah I got a dirty look and snicker from a salesperson at an AD asking me, "What did you do to your milgauss?" when she saw this NATO. Rubbed me the wrong way.

Then another time, different AD, they politely explained the "keep it oem" policy, and that regrettably they would not be able to make the swap, but sure, "take a look at our different straps that would fit."

And of course at "my" AD, they showed me some recommendations, sold, then swapped out the bracelet for me. No questions asked.

It annoys me at times that Rolex acts like we are leasing these watches from them. I understand they want their stock original but if a guy wants to change the strap on a watch that he bought and paid for where's the problem?

With that said, I also understand that they are not obligated to nor should they honor warranty on a watch that has had the case opened outside of an RSC.

This is changing a bracelet for a strap... Too much kool-aid drinking if you ask me.

Its your watch wear whatever strap you like on it. However I understand an AD refusing to do the change as I get the "upholding the brand image" argument. There are many ADs these days losing their official status for sillier reasons from what I have heard.

The ad not doing the work makes sence, but refusing to sell a strap does not.

You should be able to install any strap you wish to individualize it to your tastes. None of the AD's beeswax I would say. Not everyone finds a metal bracket comfortable. Suggest you just work with another sales associate in these cases. Hey, a NATO strap was good enough for the original bond watch. Cheers!

Rolex have spent a great deal of time, money and effort in promoting the excellence of their brand.

Imagine how they must feel when someone of dubious taste slaps a crocodile strap on it.

It is true that once someone has purchased a Rolex, they have the right to do whatever they want with it, but you cannot blame the salesperson from trying to protect the image of a brand that they sell to other customers in their shop. There are some people who Rolex would rather not have as customers.

Everest straps are a pretty well known thing in the rolex community as well as putting a vintage leather strap on a vintage sub. Personally don't think anything is wrong with this.

I think everest straps for rolexes is such a common thing that its almost expected to have a everest strap for your sport model rolex for those beach days.

I have a pam and an AP and like to change up the straps on both. Don't think it diminishes anything about the watch.

I meant that the AD, a representative of Rolex, was right to stick to Rolex company policy.
