Upgrading RO Dual Time 18k with leather Strap to RO full 18k Perpetual Calendar

Hi all,

Need some advice, I currently have a 2010 RO Dual Time 18k Yellow Gold on a leather strap. I am thinking of selling this to purchase a 2012 Perpetual Calendar Yellow Gold (full 18k strap) 25820BA.OO.0944BA.02.

Questions are:

1) The Perpetual Calendar is going for £26k - is this a fair price - condition is claimed as mint from the seller.

2) What would my watch be worth part ex compared to selling privately?

3) If sold privately and listed on Chrono24 how long would it take to sell - I have box, papers and the purchase receipt. The watch has been used regularly so has surface scratches?

4) The Perpetual calendar is more complicated so how much should I expect a service from AP to cost?

5) Would you pay an extra £10 - £13k and sell a RO dual time to purchase a RO Perpetual Cal?

Thank you in advance for all your comments and help.

Just my two cents based on researching on Chrono24

I was on a very similar boat because I recently bought a brand new, but pre-owned 25820SP (Perpetual Calendar in SS with platinum bezel) that was still under warranty, so I did a far bit of research on models with this complication.

I'll do my best to answer some of your questions.

1) This is a fantastic price! I would say it is definitely more than fair based on checking on Chrono and the sellers I've talked to. Similar pieces with the same amount of wear is listed as around £30k everywhere I've looked. If the watch is said to have been sold in 2012 that means hopefully it was serviced 1-2 years ago when it was still under warranty (given the 1 year of added warranty with registration). If you have access to the service documentation that means you don't have to worry about it for another year or two (or three depending on whether you are a believer of 2-year services that AP recommends). One thing that might not matter but I looked out for was when the watch was actually made. There are series references on this forum but most PC especially the SS ones were a E/F-series case; I got a very high number F-series (I'm guessing created around 2008-2009), and I think there are some G-series out there too. Again, this might not matter at all.

2) I don't have a lot of experience on this front so I won't comment.

3) I troll the Chrono24 site a lot and from what I can see, the turnover is pretty fast given how expensive these pieces are. With good photos and a decent price I can see it being picked up relatively quickly (a month?).

4) I have no idea but from what I have read on the forum here its going to be in the 1k-2k range. Anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong. I will find out for myself in another few years once the warranty runs out.

5) I'm sure you have already compared the two pieces extensively but I'll be happy to share my thoughts. I consider the PC to be the signature AP complication and the symmetry of the PC dial is beautiful. It is all the more amazing that this complication was created in a case that is 9.3mm thin and wears like a Jumbo.

It is not an easy watch to live with with 2ATM of waterproof and only 40Hr of reserve (I had no idea that the DT was only 38Hr though, so I guess that's an upgrade); on top of that the 2120/2802 is basically from the 70s with a pedestrian 2.75Hz freq. But consider that the movement is still unchanged technically even after the 2015 PC and this watch retains the elegant 39mm dial, you are saving 50%+ by getting essentially the same gold watch. That's a great deal and the extra 10-13k doesn't seem so much by comparison.

I hope that helps!
