Service before Trading/Selling ?

I have a DeepSea that I'm thinking about trading towards another, more costly, Rolex. I was just about to send it in for 5 year service but wondered if a dealer would prefer I not, prior to trading.
In other words, If I was purchasing a preowned watch, I'd prefer that it be freshly serviced but didn't know if dealers felt the same way regarding trade-ins.

I received no better quote on a recently serviced Sub with all boxes/papers vs one that had not been serviced when I shopped around earlier this year. That being said, I was speaking only with well known sellers here and not anyone at a Rolex authorized dealer. I've not ever seen where you get some (or any) of your money out of a very recent service when trying to trade.


Side note-how do you like the deep sea? Just curious if you were u happy with it or were just looking to switch to something different...

I doubt you would recuperate the service cost unless the watch is currently defective now, so in general don't think servicing it prior to selling / trading is a good idea

If you are trading into an AD, they will likely service the watch and polish it before putting it back into the case, so skip it.

If you are trading with a trusted seller, they will polish the watch before putting it up for sale. Whether they prefer having it serviced beforehand I imagine is up to the individual.

If you are selling or trading it privately, then servicing the watch would probably be a good idea because it would be polished and given a new warranty. That and it would certify the authenticity of the watch.

Thanks all for the info. Very helpful.

I've really enjoyed the DeepSea,,really like the larger size. It's a comfortable wear, although a little difficult with long shirt sleeves. I've worn it in rotation with several other watches and now I think I'd like to try a YM II.

I wouldn't send a watch in for service unless it needed it.
