My uncle went into a Tourneau Time Machine in New York. The sales person told him that Rolex are going to have a 15% price increase on the 1st of September.

Without a doubt, Tourneau has the worst attitude when it comes to their salespeople. I think they make an effort to make you feel small if you don't buy. When I walked in wearing a more expensive Rolex than the guy one of their "consultants" was helping she simply told him "Maybe your not at a point in your life where you need to buy this watch", walked over to me and said "Let me see what you have on your wrist there" in a matter of fact tone Buh bye

Assuming you are saying this is a sales tactic and not based on fact? If so, yes. If not, maybe they are giving you a heads up.

Tourneau is not an AD in Atlanta - and they have a bad reputation here.

Don't let them ruin your day. They work on commission and probably get paid a low hourly wage. Just to view things from their point of view for a moment...if my livelyhood depended on making a sale and I encounter looky loo's all day long, I may turn out to be the same way. Ok, enough of their point of view....if they treat others poorly they will treat you poorly as soon as you outlive your usefulness...which is spending money. Good luck finding the right place.

Cartier, Panerai & others have confirmed they will have a price increase on the 1st. So far, I've heard only rumors re: Rolex. We shall see...

I have to say, I have been to the tourneau pa and in dc area, both of which were an awful experience. I have to admit, the first time was just to browse, but from the moment I walked in, they looked at me as if I was not even worthy enough to wear the sub already on my wrist. The second time, the salesman actually told me that the lv was a great watch if it was time for bad st.pattys day party. At first, i thought he was kidding, but then he went on and told me "Lets see if we can find you the right watch to wear" You know, I love my lv, but I was actually considering walking out with another watch that day (keeping the lv too :). Well lets just say I didnt stick around much longer after that. Im not out to trash talk a company, but after this experience, I can make an exception.

A friend of mine just got back from Vegas and according to The Rolex Store at the Whynn Hotel a 5% increase is comming in early fall.

Re the price increase, we will see. What I feel VERY confident about is these dolts don't know one way or the other.

Same old story, buy now (pay me a commission). We know Rolex doesn't share advanced notice of price increases with anyone, let alone these O2 to CO2 converters.

I have had a lot of salespeople who have made condescending or otherwise rude remarks as well. Most of them don't get much training and most will not know much about watches because this is not a highly paid profession. It is too bad but I doubt this is going to change anytime soon.

From the horror stories it speaks volumes on the non-gracious society you are living in. I wore my Casio into an AD in Singapore and was served like a VIP. Moreover, I had just completed my exercise and was in shorts and T-shirt as well. I actually had not made up my mind yet when I stepped in. I was so impressed with their service that I bought the SD on the spot.

Yeah wasnt very clear about how they said that... It shouldnt really be offending if they are giving you a heads up, and plus that would be standard sales protocol, after all they are sales people....

What I dont like is snobbish attitude like they are better than you or they are doing you a favour by helping you... thats when it all goes wrong!

You make an excellent point: Salespeople who treat people well make more sales. It is important to note there are both good and untalented salespeople.

What i don't like is the fact that he could have drawn my uncle into buying a rolex because he told him that he would be saving 15%, but he would not have been saving anything.

Besides the fact that he would have paid full retail price from them.

I just don't think it's fair that sales people should be allowed to lie into getting people to buy.

I've had a similar experience when buying a car. I was put under major pressure to buy when I said from the outset I was only looking and left my checkbook at home.

There are way too many places to buy cars, and watches, to take an ounce of crap from anyone.

FWIW, Ben Bridge in Brea, CA treated me quite decent, I think.

When I was in search of the GMT II-C before the release Tourneau, Ben Bridge, in San Jose and San Francisco Ca, treated me like Ca Ca!. I realize that I didn't dress the part. I was wearing the same type of clothing in all the stores. Perhaps the worst in the store that I bought from. I wore scrub bottoms and plain white tee shirt and flip flops. Wedding ring and anniversary ring and that's it, no watch no necklace nada!. I asked all the jewelers if it were possible to pay in advance or put a deposit down on GMT II-C. Every Jeweler I went to looked at me as if that were insulting them to ask that. I was told that these were going to be very hard to get and I could do that if I had bought a rolex from them in the past. Finally I stopped by what I thought to be the nicest store on the outside. "Davidson & Licht Jewelers" in Downtown Plaza Walnut Creek CA. I talked with one of the sales people about what I wanted to do. He told me that he didn't think that they could do that but would ask. He proceeded to ask one of his co-workers when a guy came up behind me and asked me "what going on here?". I explained to him what I wanted to do. He introduced himself as Jon, and that he was the owner. He treated me with dignity and respect and knocked my socks off. I was so impressed with the way he and the staff treated me that, I will only by from them for now on. He told me that he was only getting 6 in for the year. The first one he got was for display and that the second one he got would be mine. I got the call a month later and picked it up! I was so excited and told everyone how they treated me that my co-worker also bought one from them as well! They polish the bracelet and watch once a year for free for the life of the watch. That in itself is worth buying from them. They also through in an extra year warranty in for free. Every time I've gone in they always ask to clean my watch, the offer you bottled water and mints or candy. First class service! Didn't get a discount on the first watch but they said they give me a discount for my next one. That's great cause my wife now after a year hounding her, she wants a platty! I can't say enough about Davidson & Licht Jewelers in San Jose or Walnut Creek! They Rock! In Walnut Creek see Jon or Jeremiah. In San Jose see Mel. These guys are great!

I fail to see how that's unprofessional. Tourneau in general isn't the greatest, but maybe the sales rep was just passing on overheard rumors - who knows?

I went to Tourneau in Vegas with my wife and wanted to look at the wg Daytona with the metorite dial (my grail watch). I was wearing my tt Datejust at the time. The sales person told me that I should flip my DJ to get the Daytona. I told him that the DJ had speacial meaning for me beause my wife bought it for me as a wedding present and that I would never part with it. He looked at me in front of my wife and said "I don't know why that would stop you". My wife as so ticked that she walked out of the store. :

We will never walk into that store again!!!

I actually had bad experiences at the Big T leading up to my latest Rolex purchase. At first the sales person was very pushy when I was looking into purchasing a Breitling Bentley Motors. I said, well look at the case, it has alot of hairline scratches, can you order me another one or get one sent to this store? He had a smart ass response, "We can always buff that out!" Buff that out? on a supposedly brand new $8,000+ watch? But on my 2nd SS GMT-C purchase (I flipped the first one), the sales lady was very professional and polite. I actually was wearing a wifebeater and basketball shorts when I walked in, but she was still very proper and respectful to me, even at my age. Ironically the Big T I made my 2nd SS GMT-C purchase was the same one where the breitling asshole was employed in, and I saw the asshole as I was purchasing the SS GMT-C.

A friend pointed out that sales people sometimes even judge you by which Rolex you are wearing! He said he went into one particular store whilst wearing his Air King and was pretty much treated like it was a chore to speak with him. Later on he went in again, this time sporting the Blue Submariner, and suddenly the same sales folks from before were like "Yes sir, what can we help you with today!"

It seems to me that the root of unprofessional sales people have two common threads. 1) a lack of product knowledge, and 2) simple dislike of their jobs or even field of endeavor. Either way, it prompts me to take my money elsewhere very, very quickly.

That's with or without cleavage JJ, but it does help a little

One sales person might consider someone wearing a Timex and looking at Rolexes as a waste of time. Another sales person might see this as a great sales opportunity. In either case, they should not be rude.

I was treated very well by Ben Bridge on 4th Street in Seattle. Salesman was very helpful and polite and offered me a 10% discount on all watches in stock.

I'm sorry to hear your uncle had this bad experience with Tourneau Claude. Unfortunately this is not the first time I hear something negative about Tourneau and certainly it won't be the last. Whenever I go there I walk in with an attitude and maybe that's the reason I never had any problem with them. Next time you go there give them a dose of their own medicine.

However, I was treated by a salesman very nicely, patiently and repectfully and that's when I decided to buy a preowned Expy II from them. Can't speak for other sales but my friends had hard time to get them to keep their words about getting them a free winder after purchasing an 11K Panerai.

I bought my first Rolex there and like you said, they are by far the nicest AD I have been in. Sadly I moved up to Sacramento, so it was a bit of a drive to make, but when I'm in the area I make it a point to stop by there. I have finally found an AD up here that is willing to take care me, still nowhere near D&L though.

And yes, Tourneau blows , they will never see a nickle from me after the way my wife & I were treated at the Vegas store.
