Vintage Datejust question, picture included

Hello everyone,

I have in my collection, this vintage datejust. I am unable to discern any info from it other than it is perhaps from the early 1960's as the watches without tritium did not have "swiss" printed in the dial (correct me if i am wrong).

My questions are:

-do I have to worry about this piece not being genuine, it does not seem altered in any way?
-does anyone here know the actual "vintage," years of manufacture or whatnot?
-if there any bits of info relating to this model I would appreciate hearing for sure.

It currently does run, losing about 1 minute an hour, would you say it is worth restoring?

Please forgive my lack of knowledge, I am a bit new to vintage. I appreciate any help!

A bit of background, my late Grandfather gave me this watch after he retired from the US military, many years ago.
I wore it through High School all the way past College. I figured if he wore it during service, I can daily wear it!

Cheers!

Hi Orlando,

Here is mine for comparison. 6534 circa 1957. Almost identical (-chapter ring + SWISS). I think it is genuine. But let the master verify.

It is not a DJ, it is an OP Date. 34mm.
It appears to be original.

It needs desperately a service if it looses a minute every hour. It's a cosc movement, after service you are looking at a variantion of a few seconds over 24hrs. Glass will be changed, dial cleaned.....it will looks real good.
Exact of manufacture can be established if you remove the bracelet. There is a serial in between the lugs.

Thank you, this makes me feel better. Yes agreed it desperately needs service, I have stopped wearing it completely for a few years, but have been hesitant to restore it as I did not know its provenance. Maybe my Grandfather was duped into some proto-replica haha. I very much appreciate that I now can call it an OP date rather than mistakenly thinking it is a Datejust. I am unsure if I want to have the glass and dial worked on, loses some character don't you think?

If the plexiglass polishes well enough, maybe it doesn't need replacement. As it is now I wouldn't keep
it as it takes away from the beauty of that vintage dial. Also it is less legible.

Cleaning the dial doesn't take away the patina and character. Only that dirt will be removed and it wil look 5 times better.
